So, if I said something like "you're really cute" or "its cute when you do XYX".........

......would you take it as a compliment or insult??

A friend said to me that guys dont like being called 'cute', something about their masculine pride being downgraded......

I know women dont mind being called cute (well, Im kinda stuck with that one being inch high to a grass hopper.....lol) but do women call their guys cute? Or is it a word you wouldnt use in that way..........

Probably depends on the guy. I certainly don't mind being called cute but I'm not very masculine.

Definitely not a compliment, but probably not an insult either. I wouldn't be all too thrilled about it though.

I think it depends on the context and timing. let's say during "boom boom" time. the man is standing there naked infront of the woman. she points and says "ahh how cute" yah I don't think any man wants to hear that.

I think men as a whole should get over it, I'm cute as ****.

After a lifetime of not getting compliments I am not going to start categorizing now as to what is acceptable and what isn`t.
When I see people start doing that it galls me a little, someone honestly expressed a liking of your appearance and wanted you to feel good about it but because they didn`t use the "right" word a person is miffed instead...C`mon.

I'm uncomfortable whenever someone compliments me irregardless if I like the compliment or not. If I don't know the person well I morph into a mumbling idiot, if I know them well, like family, I just want to hit them for lack of knowing what else to do.

also this rings very true for me. I get a compliment and I sorta clam up. turn red in the face. go into very mild shock. that sorta thing

I always ask guys if they mind being called cute or beautiful or anything that is typically considered a feminine compliment. They have always said they don't. I suspect some of them were lying, based on the responses in this thread.

This goes back to a thread in the chit chat forum last fall where basically that question was asked but directed at ladies and I was surprised and a little appalled that at least 80% of those responding would actually be offended if complimented "wrong".
That is some didn`t like being called cute others were okay with that but don`t dare call me pretty or sexy or whatever.
    I just shook my head.

I tell Smiley he's cute all the time... he just says "I try".

    What about women???

Bf has said I'm pretty, beautiful, sexy, a knockout, hot, but most of the time he'll look at me while doing something silly or when I'm just looking at him deeply and he'll say "God you're so cute!"

bahahahahahaha Just almost shot hot coffee out of my nose. Now that would've sucked. lol

I call a guy cute when I don't know what else to say about his looks. Usually I will say handsome, good looking, attractive, etc. Going off what Carl said, I don't really care for being called cute. I am fully aware that I am not cute in any sense of the word. I am tall, have broad shoulders (damn that swimming), and my looks just don't equate to cute. I don't mind pretty, attractive, or sexy.

Eh, I'll take what I can get. It's better than being called *kitten* or a-hole.

Don't ever call me beautiful though, that's a little feminine and I just don't like it. And I'm not so don't patronize me.

I had a roommate in college tell me that I will never be more than cute. She said it had something to do with my nose making it impossible for me to actually be classically beautiful. That bothered me for a long time, but then I realized she was just jealous because I'm a much better singer and got over it

When I'm seeing a guy, I'll tell him he's cute all the time. It hasn't bothered any of them, especially since it's generally in the context of "You're cute...come here"

I've never told a guy he was cute when he was naked though. I can see how that might be a bit of a turn off...

    ha!

While on the subject of calling guys certain things I recall hearing on the radio about a survey. According to the survey the most offensive word a woman can call a man is "creepy"

    guys do you agree?
    ladies what do you think?

I think I would be bugged out by it. A girl could call me fat or ugly. meh whatever, but to be called creepy? yah that would bother me.

I think those people are insecure about their look/self. There are a bunch of people that just can't take a compliment . And just as many that can't give one.........

I think 'beautiful' for a man is a bit naff tho - I'd never use that one. Although I have referred to a man's anatomy as beautiful before!!! :noway: :blushing:

I'm guilty of over-using "cute"...at least according to my 17 year old son. Apparently his car is NOT cute. It is manly.

And the "cute while naked" comment made me snort. :drinker:

I agree that creepy is offensive because it indicates something is wrong with your character. I think women are also quick to use that word to describe someone unattractive who hits on them, so that probably makes it more offensive.

I agree, the term creepy is for creeps!! I would definitely not use it as term of endearment. It would be someone that is making me cringe or feel sick..........

Yep, I'd be offended if I was guy :flowerforyou:

I use creepy from the feeling I get off a person guy or girl. It doesn't have anything to do with looks.
