abs/hips

Today was my first day doing cardio abs and it was great. I like all the ab work but I had one major problems, my hips. I dont know if its just me (I am a dancer and my hips crack all the time) or if I am doing the exercises wrong. It mainly hurt on the in/out exercises and I had to take a lot of breaks because of it which makes me upset mainly because my abs were ready for more. Suggestions?
