Lithium level blood test

I'm having a blood test today to check my lithium levels. Is this a fasting test? I will be sure to let 12 hours pass after I've taken my meds but I thought my doctor said fasting and I'm not sure if that means drinking or not. Since she was reminding me to drink more water I'm not sure about the instructions- and even less now that I sit here without any coffee. lol. Thanks!
