I think that for your situation, most would agree that adding in weights and reducing but keeping the cardio is best. But I think you will be surprised by the weight loss benefits of strength training, especially if you are regularly challenging yourself to lift uncomfortably heavy things. Doing 30 bicep curls with a 5 lb dumbell isn't going to help though. I lift 3X a week and cardio 1X-2X per week but the emphasis is on the weight training. The cardio is just because I lke to get out on my bike.
Loads of advice on this site; you will quickly come up with a solution that works best for you. Good luck!0 -
what do you mean by "tone?"0

The advice given was sound. I will say that you already have the cardio going for you which has help you with Fat loss. However, the strength training will help your body transform even more because you will be building lean muscle so, your body will transform even more with the strength training element. Plus, the more muscle you add will also help you burn a few more calories per day too even when you are not working out.
So, if toning is your goal then, certainly weight training will help. You should probably be lifting in the 10 rep range with a weight that is challenging enough so, the last few reps are harder to finisher then the first few reps. Constantly increase the weight you lift to keep challenging yourself. Usually every two or three weeks but, you can gauge this based on how you are feeling with the weight you are lifting if it's too easy to zip through your 10 reps you are probably lifting a weight that is too light for you at that moment.
Good luck....0 -

I already have a strong muscle base I am not one of those weak girls! I am already strong I have solid muscles in my legs and arms, I dont want them to get bigger, I want them to stay lean! and help trim the horrid little fat layer around them!
I guess I am also trying to find the right time to start including weights, is now ok? or should I loose more weight first!?
is spinning best for trimming legs?0 -
As long as you are eating at a deficit, you aren't going to add more muscle. You will be burning fat. Now is the perfect time to start incorporating a heavy lifting program.0

add the weights now ,dont worry about getting bigger ,unless u target mass gain the body will tone and shape your muscles,
if you can do your weights and cardio on different days if not always do weights first .
