Hi everyone!
I'm doing my first-ever obstacle race in a few months-Warrior Dash New York! I've been fascinated by these types of events for awhile, but have just now worked up the nerve to sign up. Would love to hear some of your guys' stories!

I did my first Warrior Dash race, my first race of any kind ever really, this past May.
It was one of the most fun and exciting days of my life.
When I started working out I saw a flyer at my Y for Warrior Dash. They had the pics of people climbing cars and jumping over fire. It looked so bad *kitten*. I thought how cool it would be to run it in a Captain America t-shirt.. I never imagined I'd actually DO anything like that!
Well I did. I met some great people from here and we all had a great time. We climbed walls and nets and jumped over fire and under barbed wire neck deep in mud. I loved every minute and can't wait to do it again and again.0 -
I'm kind of a prissy girl. I like my hair done, I like my nails painted, and my makeup perfect. A few friends got me to sign up for a race in October of last year, and it was so far out of my comfort zone, that I figured it would be like a bucket list, never gonna happen again kind of thing. But I loved it! The obstacles, pushing myself like I've never pushed before, the comraderie, (the beer at the end), everything.
I had a blast, and have now done four more since, and have signed up for as many as I can find. They are such fun. I push myself so much harder in my training, and now that I'm doing some of the courses multiple times, I really seeing my times drop. It's a great time.
I'm really looking forward to the Spartan this year. We have a team of 12, 6 girls, 6 guys. All the girls run regularly, and the guys are all our husbands, who all are powerlifters in excess of 250 pounds. We're doing it guys vs. girls, and while they may beat us on the upper body strength challenges, we're gonna smoke them on the running. And when the girls win, we're going to a spa for a weekend!0 -
im sara and new to this group and MFP today but i am a walker already i joined the couch to 5k program but i was not determined enough to actually do it as supposed too nothing to motivate me and keep me going, i have my challenges with running like i have no right knee cap i have a prosthetic vertebrae and even after nearly 5 yrs after surgery my shoulder and neck still hurt and kill me when i try to jog i found jog with my neck collar on helps but i cant do races with a collar so i need to learn to run well i need to jog first i can do just under a minute without pain its not helpful because i am determined that in June i will run and complete my first 5k survivor mud run obstacle course in Seattle WA. area. I need to train for this though so any hints and advice is appreciated, i do not have access to a gym either so can not do a lot of machine work so far i use Wii sports to do some cardio tennis and things to work on breathing but even then running is still so far ahead for me i want to run this race with 2 friends but they already run marathons so even training with them is out as they leave me for dust so hopefully i will get the input and kick in the *kitten* when i need it to get in shape. pain is not a motivator to keep on doing what hurts but i am no quitter.0

@Sevenof9ncrew - Youtube is your friend. There are tons of exercises you can do at home with little or no equipment. Just search for home exercise or body weight exercise, there are tons of videos that will show you the proper way to do all kinds of stuff at home.
I would also recommend looking up the various workout of the day routines that are out there. Spartan Race has a really good one but you'll probably need to tone it down some to get started.0
