My husband is in the Coast Guard. My stepdaughter just joined and is at Cape May doing boot right now! Nice to see a coastie group.0

I'm a Coast Guard reserve officer. I use MyFitnessPal to help keep me in check and ready for our bi-annual height/weight/bodyfat measurements.
While I complain about the standard (at 5'9" I'm supposed to be a maximum of 186, I graduated high school 20 years ago at a not-fat 184 lbs) I'm kind of glad on the other hand to have something to keep my awareness high about health.0 -

My husband uses MFP too, but he is actually trying to increase his lean body mass. He doesn't usually have any trouble staying under the standard, but where he is stationed right now, he is in charge of the wellness program which means he has to supervise those in danger of not meeting the standard. It can be tough!!
One of the things I like about MFP compared to other trackers out there is it's not just folks in the process of losing weight, there are serious athletes and fitness fanatics on here that use it as a tool to achieve the best body they can.
So Battaglia have you already met with your recruiter?0 -
Glad to hear, I was wondering why there wasent a Coasties group. I was at 200 back in janurary, according to my stats 5'7" age 26 I got to drop down to 175 before i can talk to recruiter (crazy). Dropped 18lbs so far so im well on my way.0

Yay for a Coastie Group! I'm a girl so I'm good to go for our weigh-ins (imo the female weight standards are a bit higher than I think they should be), but I know I'm not in as good of shape as I need to be and mainly it's my diet I joined MFP so I could visually see the Calories I'm eating0

Hi! My DH is CG. He is a 65 pilot and we are stationed in Detroit. He is a member here but uses it to support me. Although he does like tracking his calories and making sure he is fueling his body properly. He doesn't have any issues with weight standards, actually I have no idea what his would be because he never talks about it. haha
At any rate.... I am happy to see a Coastie group here.0 -
so my weigh in is nov 5th in Meps NY. I am at 184 right now and have to exceed 175. anybody ever been to the ny meps? i wanna know if they weigh you in the morning or afternoon. I am also taking the asvab test thae same day. Anybody have any advice on what to do 24 hours before the weight in to maxamize my chances of passing?
thanks in advance0 -
Hey all,
So to update my USCG entry, due to Hurricane Sandy my MEPS date was pushed to monday nov 19th, 2012. I worked out the weeks before and did a colen clense the friday before (woa boy). Waking up the morning of my MEPS exam i weighted 178lbs which as per the regulations of the military the max weight i can be for 69inches, which is what it says on my doctors physicals for the past years, is 185lbs. Feeling good about the security of acheivement i had a whole wheat egg white wrap and 1 bottle of water. Took my ASVAB test and rocked it with a 87/99 score. Hopped on the scale and weighted 179, but when i hopped on the scale for height i was ...67.5inches! I asked the proctor to measure me again and the same result followed. I then asked him what happens and he said he must round up to 68inches which max weight is 180lbs. So i made it by 1 lb!!! that night ate all sorts of good foor, wings, burgers, pizza, everything ive been putting away for the past year. Now i am at about 185 again (celebrated a little too much) and i have to weigh in again just before boot camp in april. I am aming to be about 173-175 walking through the door in boot camp 3 months from now.0 -
