When I first started out having kids I had no idea what to expect and I just walked 1/2hr a day, 5-6 days a week and I ate according to how I feel. 5 kids later and my youngest being only 3 months old, I decided that this time around I would concentrate on eating right and exercising and finally losing the weight. The first thing that I did was find a website that gives me a accurate count of my exercise calories and not just a over all guess. I found that at My-Calorie-Counter.com. I only use this website to calculate the amount of calories I am burning at intensity, weight, and length of time doing various exercises. The next thing I did was figure out my needed calories on FreeDieting.com. This gave me a general range of calories needed to breastfeed and also to lose weight. I then took my breastfeeding calories working out 5 days a week at least an hour a day and put that on myfitnesspal.com. You can customize your calorie output and input and stick to that to lose weight fairly easily. Doing it this way not only do you figure out the correct amount of calories to lose weight but also the correct calories burned for your activity level. My Elliptical would say that I burned only 350 calories for 1 hour at the rate I was going. I found out that that was for someone who weighed only 150 pounds. I actually burned 600 calories, My MFP said I burned 1,010..that is a 400 calorie difference. That is why I say to only go by a calculator that adds weight, duration, and intensity only.

I hope that this helps other Mother's to figure out their daily calorie needs and exercise calories accurately.
