Hello Ladies,
A few weeks ago I finally took the plunge and had tests done to determine if I have PCOS or not. Since I was 16 doctor's have speculated but not a single one of them tested me for it. According to the nurse when she called I do in fact have cysts on my ovaries. I haven't yet spoken to my doctor (I do that in a few weeks) so I'm not sure what she plans for me but I wanted to talk with women who have been in a similar situation. I don't know really know what to expect although I'm hoping that having a confirmed condition will help me with symptom relief.
As for my weight loss journey- in January of last year I weighed my heaviest ever. I lost about 50lbs by December but since then I have gained close to 10lbs back. I'm hoping to continue on in the right direction. It'll be a long road but I'm pretty hopeful.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble. I hope that we can be a good support system for one another. Please feel free to friend me!
Thanks,
Rachel

Hi Rachel! I'm new here too. I just wanted to say that your situation seems so similar to what I went through; I started having symptoms when I was 19, and doctors seemed to just treat the symptoms and not look any further. A friend of mine who is a nurse first suggested that I might have PCOS, but no one would even do the tests. I finally found my doctor when I saw her talking about PCOS on the Discovery Channel and realized that she was in my city. She feels that because PCOS has the word Ovarian in the name, many people tend to label it as a "woman's issue" and just leave it at that. I actually probably did that myself a bit at first, and I was completely overwhelmed when my tests came back and the doctor really started explaining the disease and the different treatment options.
It isn't an easy fix, but just having someone acknowledge that there was something going on beyond normal hormonal issues really helped to motivate me and work hard to get everything back on track. I think what I've learned over the last year and a half by gaining back some of the weight I lost when I started treatment is that it's a lifelong process that I'm going to have to commit to if I am going to stay healthy and keep the symptoms at bay. A support system is a necessary part of that!0
