How can I support you???

Ladies, I created this group and haven't participated very much in it, and for that I am sorry.
I am no expert, but I have learned a few things along the way. This wasn't easy for me, and I am not done yet. In truth I don't ever plan on being done. In order to be successful it has to be a lifestyle change. My profile and diary are open, so please take a look.
But beyond that, tell me how I can support you!!

Hi there!! You may not believe this, but I just read your profile and guess what book is on my desk RIGHT NOW??? Yep, Outlander. I have read the series before but like to re-read stuff and after finishing the Red Tent, I will be heading back to the hot Jamie.
Anyways, I am brand new to MFP and still finding my way around. I think I have my numbers straight...not sure though. Would you be willing to help me figure out if I have it correct? It can be a little crazy in some of the other areas of this website. Crazy and intimidating. And confusing.
BTW, congrats on the before and after pics. You look fantastic. You must have really changed your lifestyle and eating habits. Very inspirational.0 -
I'd be happy to help in anyway I can. I think the most important piece of advice I can give you is to make sure you are eating enough! Now I'm not talking about the eating that has brought us here in the first place, I'm talking about eating enough so that you can properly fuel your body. When we eat enough, our bodies will properly metabolize and burn that fat off. So eat back those exercise calories! MFP has already created a deficit for you!
What confuses you?0 -
Thank you.
According to MFP, I should eat 1200 calories. When I went to scooby and fat2fit, I learned my BMR is 1513, TDEE 2080 and I should eat 1664 calories with a 40%protein, 40%carb and 20% fat ratio. So I manually put those numbers in to MFP goals. Sound about right? I am 46, 5ft6inches and currently weigh 177.
The only exercise I do, other than running around like every other woman I know, is 30 minutes every morning of brisk walk on local track. I plan on adding weight training soon. I recently had abdominal surgery (my fourth) so I am going to take it slow with the weights. Not sure if i need to eat anything back for walking fast!!
I am very motivated. Since the surgery in April, I have cut out all soda, stopped adding sugar and salt to anything and have been eating a lot more fruits and veggies. I have only been journaling for two days but it is an eye-opener.
Any thought would be most appreciated!!0 -

I'm constantly playing around with my calorie goal, it's so hard to figure out sometimes. You can customize your own goal, but if you use MFP's goal it is important to eat back those exercise calories. It seems to be all about the "net", and I personally try to always net my BMR. There are some fantastic groups here to, Eat More To Weigh Less and Fuel The Machine, they can also provide you with some good info. Fat2Fitradio.com is a great wesbite!0

Right. My concern is that MFP says to eat 1200 calories and scooby says to eat 1664. That seems like a big difference.0

I don't know about scooby, do they say to eat back excersize calories?? MFP is expecting you to eat those back. You start w/ 1200 as do I, but the more you exercise the more you eat. MFP has already given you a calorie deficit.0

If you are interested, here is the website. It was recommended in other parts of this website. You have to choose your activity level so as long as you maintain that level, you do not eat back. You also have to choose a goal...i set mine as lose fat with a 20% calorie reduction. If I follow this plan, it says I will lose .8 pds per week.

Ok, there's the difference. With MFP you have to eat back those exercise calories, that's why it's added to base goal.0

I see. I'm really trying not too get too wrapped up in these bottom line numbers...I guess I'll just keep logging my foods and eating less and moving more. I can't go wrong, right?
Thanks for your responses...0 -
As long as you minimum is netting your BMR you should be ok, just remember we don't need to starve to succeed at this!0
