Doctor Made Me Nervous

Hey all!

I know this isn't a very popular topic, but I'm looking to see if anyone has some perspective on this :) When I saw my doctor on Tuesday for my 10 week appointment, everything went great (saw and heard the heartbeat for the 2nd time - first time was at 7 weeks) and the baby is measuring well. I asked her at what point would be a safe time to tell my boss and some others (not make a big announcement yet - but just spread the news a bit more) and she said "I would DEFINITELY wait until 12 weeks - I wouldn't tell now." It just made me a bit nervous because I was feeling really good about the appointment until she said it like that. Of course, I know in general 12 weeks is when miscarriage risks go down, but I didn't think there was a huge gap between 10 and 12.

I was hoping to tell my boss this week, as it's been a bit of a stressor for me (I don't think she will be very supportive) - but now I'm reconsidering. Thoughts, anyone?

Thank you!

I think it's up to you. I told my boss right when we found out because I do construction inspections on a regular basis as part of my job which could expose me and the baby to potentially dangerous situations. I didn't want him to plan for me to be on a swing stage job in the middle of the summer when I'm 8 months preggers, lol.

I didn't really start telling everyone unitl the 2nd trimester, but I told my close family and friends around 10 weeks. Just think of it this way, don't tell anyone now that you wouldn't feel comfortable telling *potential* bad news about the pregnancy later. I knew even if I had a miscarriage I would want my close family and friends to know because they would be the ones to help me through it, so that was a no brainer. And when I told my boss, I asked him to keep it on the DL until I made an official announcement to the rest of my co-workers. Hope that helps :-) CONGRATS by the way!

I agree with telling your boss now if you want. My doctor told me i could tell ppl right away. She said that those are the ppl that will need to know if you have a miscarriage. Would you feel up to work if you had a miscarriage? i know i would need a few days is not more off of work and my boss would need to know and understand. Plus i would need my family and friend's support as well.

I think at 10 weeks you are safe. Tell away and bask in the congratulations! Plus is feels better for your self esteem to tell ppl you are prego rather than just gaining weight! lol

I wouldn't worry, its up to you. If everything looks good, your chance for miscarriage goes way down!

Thanks everyone - you bring up a really good point in that I would be requesting time off work anyways if we did lose the baby, so it would be easier if my boss knew now instead of having to tell her the entire story. Thank you for your perspective :)

And yes, Jamie, it would be nice for everyone to know this belly is serving a PURPOSE!! :)
