I had my surgery on 6/21/12, but started my liquid diet on May 29, 2012 after my weigh-in. I have lost a total of 38 pounds so far. 27 between may 29th until June 21st and 11 since surgery.
Today my doctor cleared me for soft foods. I am happy cause I do not want to see another protein shake......EVER....lol...

I hear you on the protein shakes. I couldn't even last 5 days eating nothing but those!! I transitioned to greek yogurt for my meals to get my protein. I am now transitioning to ground/pureed foods one meal at a time to see how my body does. I am only a week out of the hospital, but I needed something different. So far so good!0

At three months out I do try and get a good part of my protein from food. At this point though my body just wont eat enough to make my goal of at least 70gms. I do still have at least one shake a day most of the time. The trick was finding one that tasted good (almost impossible I know). I starting getting the Premier brand ready made shakes from Costco. They are 11 ounces, silky smooth and NOT thick. They are actually so good I started having to buy more because my hubs likes them and drinks them also. They have 30 gms of protein per shake with only 5 carbs. I also enjoy the CLICK protein coffee. I only know how to get it online though, I dont know of any other place that sells it.
My surgeon didnt allow anything except shakes and strained soups and broth for the first three weeks after surgery so I got pretty desperate to find alternatives that I could stomach0 -
Had my bypass on 4/9/12. i've had no issues with nausea. I just have to get the demon in my head turned off. You know the one that keeps picking up your fork and putting food in your mouth? i'm not hungry. But if its on my plate in gonna eat it. As far as protein drinks goes I really like the Muscle Milk drinks. Give them a try. Oh and im down to 301 lbs from 376 lbs.0

I am definitely familiar with that demon! It has been rearing its ugly head lately. One thing that helps me is that I never use regular sized dinner plates. I serve all my meals on the smaller salad sized plates. Fooling the eye really does help. If I go out to dinner I ask for a to-go box right away and pack up 2/3 of my meal right away. If I leave it all on my plate I will keep picking at it.0 -

Hi....I had my surgery on 6/6/12 so we are close!....I am now just 4 wks out. Last week I finally got to start eating soft foods. I am basically living off egg substitute with Fat Free Cheddar Cheese and Salsa. Sometimes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. its so good.
I also have Oikos yogurt with splenda. Plain yogurt. The splenda is either the regular kind or a flavored French Vanilla for coffee that I got at walmart. Yummy. I have had refried beans and chili in the cans too. I wish i knew how to cook and then I could try other stuff, however, i am afraid to stray from the list of "common foods" that people eat on the list my nutritionst gave me.

Also, try google for "the world according to eggface" She has fabulous recipes for soft/pureed stages. I literally lived off her baked ricotta recipe for a couple for a couple of weeks. Reminded me of lasagne! She also had a great baked cauliflower and cheese recipe that I made then I just pureed it. Yummo!0 -

I had my RNY surgery on 06/07/2012. I'm still on pureed foods, and cant' wait to transition to soft foods. I'm over eating refried be6 ans, tilapia, and egg substitute.
I can't wait to eat chili with ground beef. Oh, and cheese! I can eat cheese soon!

I had my revision surgery on 6/26/12. I had my lapband removed and had the RNY done. I am reading everywhere that everyone was on liquids and soft foods for a couple weeks. My surgeon had my class eating real food a week after surgery. I am handling it very well but the scale is going slower than I thought. I have lost about 27lbs since coming home from the hospital. I am sticking to high protein low sugar foods and only eating about 300 cals a day and exercise about 30 -45 mins about 5 days a week (only treadmill until 2 months out). I have heard that having a revision surgery you tend to lose weight slower. Has anyone experienced this? I meet with the dietician and exercise specialist in a few weeks and have a lot of questions so far.0

I just recently discovered the Oh Yeah! brand of ready made protein shakes. I buy them at The Vitamin Shoppe. OMG so yummy. The banana creme is to die for. They also come in cookies and cream, strawberry and chocolate. The banana has 220 cal/ only 4 carbs and 32gms protein Makes a great "grab and go" breakfast or as a snack when I am really low in protein for the day.0 -

How much protein are you getting per day? My weight loss slows to a crawl when I am not getting enough protein and not drinking enough water.0 -
At my bariatric center, they discourage protein shakes (pretty much say no protein shakes)
They want you to get protein from "real food". But hell, sometimes I don't have time to cook or prepare...
Of course I learned this after I bought 2 cases of shakes from Costco0 -
I dont really get that whole "no shakes get it from food" thing. IN the beginning there is no way you can eat enough to get that much protein. I still cant. I still drink at least one shake a day to get my protein in. I am too desperate to keep as much of my hair as possible to let my protein drop too low. I am already shedding like a cat now!0
