Yes, there were pitties in the White House with TR. Helen Keller had a pitbull, and during WW1 the pitbull represented America's initial neutrality. The poster depicted a white pitbull in a jaunty sailor's cap and scarf with the caption: "I don't want to fight, but if I have to, I will!" Several years ago the Tanquaray Gin advertising mascot was a staffordshire terrier with a big grin on his face. I think the caption was something like "Drink Responsiblly and Be Happy."0
