Confused about calculating points

I just started weight watchers today...or rather, re-started. I did it in high school to go from 135 to 115 quite succesfully, and it was the ONLY thing that ever worked, so I'm back to it. Only this time I don't have the money to pay for membership, so I'm going off info I can find off the internet and memory. I downloaded an app called WWdiary, after trying a few other trackers/calculators, and I'm confused by why it doesn't ask for calories when calculating points? Only fat, fiber, protein, and carbs are asked. I also downloaded a PointList app which lists points for most foods, so that helps, but I just want to make sure I'm doing it right.
