Racing this weekend?

This weekend seems to be pretty popular for races. I know a lot of you are racing Saturday or Sunday. What distance? Has your race done anything to adjust for the heat? What have you done to plan for racing in the heat?
I'm doing a sprint triathlon-500 yd swim, 15 mi bike, 3 mi run. The lake is about 86-87 degrees so the water won't even be refreshing. The bike course isn't shaded but the run is pretty shaded and flat. I don't think the race has made any adjustments for the heat. My wave will start at 7:25 am so it'll be about 9 am when I finish, still close to 90 degrees. I've ramped up my potassium intake and drank more water than usual to ensure I'm hydrated before the race starts. I plan on taking 2 water cups at the run water stations, 1 to drink and 1 to pour on my head to cool me down.
Drink your water & find some electrolytes today MFPers! Good luck to all racing!

Good Luck in your race! And to all racers this weekend too!
I'm not racing, probably not until August. Still training hard though!0 -
Did a 10K on July 4th and definitely felt it! They had extra water stations set up, but it was a pretty easy course, so I actually passed up a couple. It started at 7:30 so we were done before it got crazy hot. Still I was dizzy all day trying to catch up on fluid and electrolytes. Good luck and stay safe everyone!0

Racing this weekend. It's "just a sprint" Looking forward to not having to bother with HR and just redlining it the whole way.0

I did a 10k on July 4 too. I got a PR and 2nd in my age group, so it was a great day for me. Afterwards I was very tired from the heat. This summer is killer!

Doing my first Oly on Sunday! Disappointed the start isn't until 9am - forcast is for hot and humid.0

WOW! 9:00? That is super late for a summer event. A friend of mine was supposed to do the Muncie Half Ironman in Muncie Indiana last weekend. He drove all of the way up there (from South Carolina...very far), and the event was turned into an Olympic due to heat. It's a grueling summer!0
