What does it mean when a guy says, "I'm complicated"

Friend went to an event with a guy. They'd had one date and felt some chemistry, but she wasn't sure if this was a date or an outing since it had been a month or two. Unlike the 1st date, where the guy was all over her, this time he was very platonic- keeping distance even when she tried to get close. She gave up trying to flirt with him about half way through the event, but when he dropped her off, he tried to make out with her. She stopped him and said she was surprised because he'd acted like he wasn't interested. He said "I'm complicated that way"

What do you think that means? I think it means he wasn't interested in a relationship, but spending that time with her got him riled up.

    Yeah could be that... It means that the guy isn't that skilled with ladies for sure, though.

    Well there's two different questions here. When a guy says he's complicated it means it means he doesn't always know why he does certain things or feel a certain way. He could try to explain it to you but he probably doesn't want to.

    If you want to know if he's actually interested, it could go either way. Either he's shy and it took him a while to open up or he's just not sure how he feels yet.

    Well .. if he was all over her the first date I don't think shyness is the problem .. I think there was someone else at the event he was trying to catch the eye of and when that didn't pan out he thought he would take a stab at your friend.

    I think he has problems with relationships as they make him anxious which is why he approaches when she backs off and retreats when she takes the initiative.
