Gone Gluten Free

Hello everyone. I am Weylon. I decided to go gluten free 16 days ago. I have had constant pain for 20 years of my life and developed "brain fog". I am also constantly fatigued. Maybe the brain fog was always present but has just been much more prevalent over the last five years or so. I have tried a multitude of things to try and feel better. This gluten free diet is the latest. I noticed rather quickly a reduction of the brain fog and while I can think a bit more clearly, it hasn't done much for the pain and fatigue. I should also mention I was diagnosed with low adrenal function and low thyroid. I am hoping eventually to be completely healed using the gluten free diet. I will stick with it in any event. I think eating too much of any grain will have negative results. I do not know why I have waited so long to try this but here I am and here I go. :)

    Welcome!

Personally I think gluten is evil, and I have no desire to have it anymore! It took about a month before I suddenly noticed I wasn't tired and achy all of the time.... And now I am going on four months gluten free and MOST of my neurological symptoms have subsided. I finally have energy! YEA!

If you were a pretty big gluten eater, then it will take longer for it to leave your system.... give it time, and I am sure the pain will subside.

    Good luck!

Hey Weylon! Welcome to the 'good life'!

I too think gluten is evil! LOL Ok, maybe not for everyone, but certainly for a great deal of us!

I would like to make a suggestion to you, to do a detailed food diary for health in a notebook. Not necessarily how much you consume, but for this diary keep detailed track of every bite of food you put in your mouth, also how you feel throughout the day.
Log the good happy clear minded moments as well as the pain fatigue ones.
I think in a very short time of you doing this, you will see that certain foods are keeping you from feeling better.

When I went gluten free, I had raging cravings and withdraw for 3 days. Had I not read on the net this is normal, I would have thought I went off the deep end! Then my mind cleared on day 4. Wow! I felt so good! Day 5 the joint pain was gone.
But day 14 it was back. ....?....
Following my diary, I found I was reacting to any form of corn. Corn syrup, corn starch in my vitamin, citric acid (seldom is citrus), etc After clearing these from my diet, I was feeling good again, only to have it happen again. This time it was hidden sources of soy. Then a month later I reacted to both cocoa and dairy!

I only missed the cocoa (chocolate), but I feel so much better without it. Not being able to buy a bottled sauce like mayo or ketchup somewhat bothered me. But I learned to make my own mayo, which is simple, and if I could go back to store bought, I wouldn't! I love it on my salads (like Ranch Dressing).

I personally decided to eliminate all grains also. Not that I reacted to them all, I just saw no need for bread or crackers, etc in any form. (I began the Keto diet) I can get plenty of fresh, frozen or canned veggies and meats.
Of course, I have reacted to a few things anyhow. Like fresh cut watermelon from the produce section of Walmart did not state it was sprayed with citric acid (corn) but the reaction I had clearly told me it had been tainted with something!
I also cannot use onion powder or other powdered seasonings, I react violently. Tho they do not state any other ingredients, my body says NO NO NO. That is my guide.

Seek your health first, then worry about the weight. You may be like me and carrying a lot of inflammation that is adding to the weight. Find the combination YOUR BODY loves to have, and stick with it. The inflammation will slowly go away, and then you can see if you have to lose weight!
The fresher the foods, the less likely you are to have a problem. Try it, and log every bite and every moment of how you feel, and see if you can find whats right for you!

    Good luck!!!!
