Frustrations?

I'm not sure where to post this, but I thought maybe you all would have some thoughts. My elliptical says that have 64 minutes of use, I have burned 1334 calories. This seems like a ridiculous amount, and when I logged it, the amount the was automatically entered was 904 calories. Even that sounds a bit much. Any ideas what's going on and what number I should use? Should I just go with my machine?

If you want something more accurate get a heart rate monitor. I have a Polar FT7 and use it whenever I do cardio. The machine and the site are probably not accurate.0

I've heard that too. The only real way to accurately track calorie burn is by tracking your heart rate.0

Thank you very much!0

I agree with the HRM as the most accurate way. Today, I would go for the lower of the 2 options in an effort to not overestimate your calories. I find that the machines are pretty accurate against my HRM. As for MFP calculations the calories are usually over by 100-200 more calories than my HRM results.0

Thank you all for your help! I'm going to get a HRM, so there will be no guessing.0

I haven't bought a HRM yet, it's on my list of things to reward myself with. I keep trying to add or do something new every couple of weeks. This week I bought a new food scale...I already have a love/hate relationship with it!! I had a little victory with my elliptical machine yesterday. When I joined the gym in April, I could barely do 5 minutes. I have been doing 45 now for over a month, but yesterday was the first time it automatically had to increase the grade to keep my heart rate within my target range. Hated the harder workout, but was happy and surprised to see I was getting healthier!0

That's awesome!! My elliptical doesn't have any options other than time, number of revolutions, speed, and calories burned (which is most likely not even close). I had to start out breaking my workout into 5 minute increments, but now I can do 30 at a time. Slowly getting there... lol0
