UK website recommendations?

Open to all, of course, but probably mostly looking for recommendations from the UK Single peeps, as I imagine the situation is variable between countries! Which dating websites would you recommend/caution against? I have to do *something* to get myself out of the starting blocks on this, and joining clubs/interest groups/going to special-interest classes etc has got me precisely nowhere!
I don't mind paying a bit, though preferably not too much, and ideally I'd like to try it for a month or two, rather than signing up for a year at a time. Thoughts?

Over the years I've tried - Girls date for free, Match, POF, E-Harmony, DatingDirect.com, Zoosk,.........
I've got to say, they are much of a muchness!!
Just did a search and came up with this one:
http://www.flirtbox.co.uk/
Maybe give that a go?? It seems new. Maybe the freaks haven't discovered it yet!!!
And please pay no heed to my cynicism. I have known people that have met their parters on Match and DatingDirect and one couple who are getting married this year0 -
Fck... Really long post wasted because of browser.
Anyway, in short:
- There is no right channel, you just need to use the channel right.
- I'd use POF, at least it's free (subscribe, wait for 2 weeks, then go on it and contact 1-2 men a week, forbid yourself to go further than 1st date for 5 men).
- Meetup.com for friends 99% of the time, and if you're lucky you can even meet someone.
- Why did special interest classes led nowhere? Did you chose the right interests? (and no, *kitten*' salsa is not the right interest to meet men)
- On this topic, try to think about the kind of men you'd like, at least activity wise. Should he be "sporty" and want to go out with you for parachute jump? Or should he like golf (more relaxed kind of activity)? Should he be a pub crawler and party freak? Extreme socialiser or quiet type? etc etc then think about which one you favour, and where you're likely to meet such a man?
So, yeah. Just pick any channel really, normally you get back what you put in.0 -

Cynicism or realism?! I agree that it doesn't seem particularly productive in the most part, but maybe it's better than doing nothing, having tried the obvious alternatives. I did try e-harmony once (is that the one where you have to fill in a looooong questionnaire first?) and decided quite quickly it mightn't be a productive option as it came up with a school leaver whose primary interests were rap, heavy metal and football, from somewhere I'd never heard of, as my top 'match'. Seemed unlikely to me...
I'll have a look at flirtbox - avoiding the really scary people sounds like a good idea!Fck... Really long post wasted because of browser.- Meetup.com for friends 99% of the time, and if you're lucky you can even meet someone.

Problem is, I did think about this when I was picking classes, clubs etc. That's why I was wondering about websites, where I might see something I hadn't thought of and realise that's quite appealing. Ho hum. Maybe I'll try the POF thing. At worst it just won't provide any results, in which case I'm no worse off!
Thank you both :flowerforyou:0
