looks like the Chinese are up to their old cheating ways again.

Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen smashed world record by a second and her own personal best by five
Last 50m was slightly faster than men's gold medallist Ryan Lochte

so a 16 year old girl is swimming fast enough to compete with Ryan Lochte? and with China's history of steroid/doping i wouldnt be surprised if that was the case here.

I had the opportunity to watch the US women's eight destroy the rest of the field on Sunday at Eton Dorney. Very, very impressive.

The Opening Ceremony...well, I imagine there were some very confused international audiences. To be honest, I thought the first half was amateurish and more than a little 'cringe-worthy', but things picked up in the second half.

As a British resident, but with multiple international allegiances, I'm getting a bit fed up with the BBC's insistence on 24/7 coverage of British athletes and blackout on any other team if they're not in the top 3. I'd have loved to see some of the US Gymnastics team, but couldn't find a single shot.- please tell me the US networks are showing a bit more internationalism?!

Absolutely fantastic! You are close by and enjoying the events. Lucky you. Are you a rower yourself? And, btw, I was blown away by the entire opening ceremonies (what NBC didn't edit out anyway). I cringed at nothing and you should be rightly proud. It showcased your little Isle brilliantly and allowed me to celebrate my chaotic Anglo-Saxon heritage.

While prime time shows focus on the American teams, the cut aways focus on the teams that are next to or rivaled with the US. The only thing I haven't seen yet on prime time is the bios of the top international competitors. I'm watching most of my Olympics though on line this time. Whoo hoo! Trouble is, I'm afraid to download any .exe files on my PC so have to switch back and forth. And, I don't feel like I should have to download any fookin' .exe file - the iphone has spoiled me and I just think this stuff should be accessible without being intrusive.

Plus, I just read poor Azdak's techni post and, frankly, I think he nearly got sucked into a dark vortex. He obviously has no fear about these things and have helped reveal in me a growing technophobe!!! LOL

Well, I am looking forward to tonight's swimming and gymnastics. The Olympics always suck me in good.

The FAB FIVE - whew. Intense and too serious it seemed going in (they hardly even smiled until yesterday!) guess they knew what they were about! And just think, with all the focused faces and determined eyes, not one of them was heard to dis another teammate.

Michael Phelps - whew. Off his game from Bejing but who can dispute his strength and elite status even as an "old man" at age 27? Could it be that he and his coach, Bob Bowman, laid off the previous training rigor because of the older body? My daughter had been swimming in USS for 7 years when at age 13 she got her shoulder injury. Phelps has been swimming over 16 years and he is no longer a whippersnapper.

Ryan Lochte - he seems to have escaped the aliens that captured him earlier in the week because yesterday, after the team free relay, he was gracious again and relaxed, and his kill without mercy ego in check.

All in all, have to say just two words - Gabby Douglas! Now, if she can just not let the aliens capture and change her, there's a bright future ahead for that girl!
