Yesterday I did my 3rd sprint triathlon. It went well...took 2 1/2 minutes off of my last time finishing at 1:22:50. The only problem was that it was SO HOT that I thought I would pass out. The run was pretty miserable. My run time was not what I wanted (over 25...wanted low 24s), but I literally had no more to give in that heat. I kept thinking, "you are going to slow. Pick it up."...but my legs just wouldn't go faster. They had tons of water out on the run course because of the heat...and I took it most of the time...but usually I just tossed it over my head. SO HOT! Thankfully, everyone seemed to be suffering because I heard that comment over and over when it ended. Despite the crappy run, I feel good about how it went. I am really looking forward to my Olympic on Sept. 16....and wondering if I should do another sprint in August! :)

For "more complete coverage" of my race, check out my blog post about it!

Hot races offer no PR's. Nor should they. What they DO offer is a golden opportunity - albeit one that will never be appreciated by someone looking at the race day numbers - to really dig deep down inside and figure out exactly who you are on race day.

It may sound like bullbunky, or just another cliche, I suppose. But truly, when you can walk away from a race day that has had some sort of added difficulties mixed into it, and feel good about the effort that got you to the finish line? Some times those efforts WAY outweigh PR efforts that have come under perfect conditions.

So to me, your race day was golden, and I'm all starry eyed for your effort. PR or no PR, you're amazing to me.

awesome race report, glad your enjoying your new bike, I am just getting back into running so totally know what you mean about the heat and running .... it has make it harder to get back into running with all the hot and humid days we have been having

overall sounds like you had a great race, and you will surely get your 1:20 time once you have better conditions

Congrats on a great race! Impressive that you were able to improve your overall time, even with the extreme heat!
