My 7 year old son is going to be BUMMED about Pence. Frankly, I am too. Victorino, on the other hand, has sucked all year.

I was a Pence fan. And YES, I know he's not the best defensive player ever. But he always looked like he was having fun and always hustled. I am a fantasy baseball geek and for the life of me, I don't know any of these prospects we are getting. None look particularly impressive. Seems like Rube was in full panic mode today.

Can someone explain what the rationale is for trading these two? I was under the impression they were really helping the team out this season...ugh. No more Bob Marley being played when the Flyin' Hawaiian takes bat?! Say it ain't so!

Shane was to be a free agent at season's end, so trading him before that insured we "get something" for him. The Hamels contract pretty much took resigning him out of the question and the team will mostly have to pay a luxury tax next season. As for Pence, he was due $13-14M next season and it was determined they could get a comparable OF for less. At least this is how I understand it to be.

This is really for the best. They were the only two position players wroth anything. I am not crazy about the return but I am sure Ruben did his best. Shane was not coming back and Pence just didn't fit into this team. Hopefully some of the younger players they got will pan out to be players. I am quite surprised no others trades were made. I thought for sure something else was going to happen.

Thank you guys so much for helping this gal out. I feel like all the guys who were "staples" in my Phillies book (Ibanez; Oswalt; Werth; Victorino; Pence) are traded now :(

My lack of baseball history (just got into it when I moved to Phila about 6 years ago) has me unprepared for how quickly players are on your team...then not.

Regardless of who is on the team, though, I'll support the Phillies cause.

I'm NOT sold this was the best we could have gotten for those players. Especially in a situation where it should be a "seller's market." Just my 2 cents. But hey, we did beat the Natinals (misspelled on purpose) 8-0 last night!

Nice back to back home runs last night! Is anyone going to the game Saturday night? I will be there in left field.

Oh! I'm jealous you will be there!!! I think I'm trying to go next week (holding out to see weather reports). Def going to a game on Friday Sept. 7th.

It was so enjoyable to see us play the last couple of games. Not sure if the Nats were having an off series, but we looked good. J-Roll in particular. That in-the-park-homer was AWESOME!

Well Brook at least the core of players like Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels and Halladay are still around. Who knows how long Lee will be here. I could see an off season deal involving him.

Touchdown, I hear what you're saying. I thought they would get more for Pence as well. I thought getting that middle reliever for Shane was a terrific deal. They got younger (23 years old) and got something for a guy they were not going to bring back anyway. Lets just hope they show some guts the last 60 games. Dominic Brown also needs to show he is a Major League ball player or else he needs to go.

Yup, another one bites the dust.

On another note, I thought the Phillies looked pretty good last night against the Diamondbacks. Brown looked decent, we were sitting in row 9 behind him in left field.
