Do any of you have trouble sleeping on your side? I have always been a back or stomach sleeper and am unable to sleep on my side. I have a bobby pillow which is supposed to help but when ever i sleep either side one of my hips and upper leg goes numb and is kinda painful. How have you girls been able to adjust to sleeping???

I mostly sleep on my sides so I can't relate but that sounds painful! Idk what your doctor has told you but I asked mine about which ways to sleep and which ways to try to avoid and he told me to sleep whichever way I was comfortable and that all those restrictions are really just old wives tales. so I haven't really worried much if I sleep on my back, I wake up so many times to pee so I just want to be comfortable when I do sleep lol0

And I may add my doctor is pretty young so he may have a more modern approach to things!0

I am like you, I was always a belly sleeper. This is now uncomfortable, even as I've tried to try different pillow positions. I still lie on my back, I understand it's fine and you may become uncomfortable, but you won't hurt your baby. I use my body pillow and sleep on my side with my leg out, so it's kind of like 1/2 side 1/2 stomach and that is usually pretty comfortable...until I get bigger. I would do whatever is comfortable for you, sleep is very important0

I have a wedge pillow, that for awhile I put under the belly, to help my back while I lay on my side. I've never been a side sleeper either, so my shoulders and hips have been terribly sore and achy. Lately, I've been putting the wedge between my knees (I'm assuming any type/kind of pillow would work for this). It helps my upper hip, but the lower one is still quite sore in the mornings. Makes me roll around a lot at night, switching side to side. I also will change it up by putting the wedge under my right hip while laying on my back, just to get tilted to the side a bit. I notice more lower leg cramps if I lay flat on my back for too long, maybe just my paranoia.0

ugh sleeping is always difficult for me during pregnancies. My arm always gets numb from sleeping on my side. i always have my hand behind my neck. no amount of pillows help. my sleeping difficulty begins as soon as I find out am pregnant. Oh and the constant internal alarm clock that goes off at 4am to pee is so much fun.lol0

I am a back sleeper, and I've been trying really hard to sleep on my sides, but it's hard to stay that way! I usually make sure I have a pillow behind me so that if I roll back I'm not flat on my back. So far I haven't noticed any issues - I've heard that if you are cutting off that blood supply your arms and legs go numb?? I don't know! I was flat on my back last night for a few hours, and baby girl is still kicking me today, so I'm not sure how much truth there is to all that.0

I found a "leach" pillow that looks like a long tube pillow that's curved on the ends. Found it at a toys r us. It was pricey but worth it. sometime i have it in front of me and wrap it between my legs adn then lean on it with one leg straight and one bent so it kind of feels like I'm sleeping on my stomach. kind of........
If I put it to my back i also wrap it through my legs but then I hug a pillow in front.
I've got 4 weeks left and this is helping quite a bit but it's just not the same. I think we'll be uncomfortable on some level no matter what.0 -
I've always been a side sleeper, so I didn't have to adjust to it, however I do find the bottom hip gets quite sore some nights. I always get up at least once to pee, so I try to make sure that I switch sides when I go back to bed. My doctor is one of the ones who insists on no back/stomach sleeping, so I have a body pillow in front of me and a regular pillow wedged in against my back, so if I roll over I'm at least on an angle. As my friend's mom put it "these 'rules' didn't exist 30 years ago and babies turned out just fine", so just do what works best for you to get some sleep at night!
Oh, I also find some times that the baby doesn't seem to like certain positions. Like I'll be on my left, then switch to the right and all of a sudden the baby will start kicking like crazy because it doesn't like being shifted from one side to the other. If it doesn't stop after a few minutes I'll go back to the original position and the baby will stop kicking, but of course I'm back on the sore hip...:ohwell:0 -
I've also been told that sleeping on my back is fine, and that my body will wake me up if I need to switch positions. But I sometimes find it harder to breathe on my back because of the extra weight.
The most comfortable position for me is: a line of pillows behind my back, and a line of pillows down the front for me to hold on to or put my legs around. Kind of like I am the wiener in a hot dog bun of pillows. This way I can roll back and find a 45 degree angle, half way between my back and my side. If I'm really lucky, my husband tucks the duvet around me and stuffs it over and under the pillows. We call this position the "sweet potato."
And really, as we get close to the end, no position will be comfortable. Ugh.0 -

I am just having trouble with sleeping at all at the moment, I am so exhausted but when I go to bed my brain goes into overdrive and I can't get to sleep. I used to suffer really badly with isommnia during my teens and early twenties, but I've been pretty good for a few years now. Lately though, I just can't switch my brain off and its really stressing me out. I keep thinking how bad it must be for the baby as well, which makes me more stressed and even harder to sleep... Then I have to front up to work and hold down a senior professional role, where no one knows I am pregnant :-( booo hooooo0
