plateau and soy/gluten allergies?

i've been stuck on a terrible plateau for the past 4-5 months. for the past couple months, i've been trying to break through it with the help of a nutritionist who last week suggested i might have a soy allergy (or sensitivity), a gluten allergy (sensitivity) or both causing it.

has anyone here had this experience? it seems so hard for me to believe that something that doesn't make my stomach hurt could be making me sick and unable to lose weight. could this be?!
has anyone else had this experience?

Yes, it is possible. Many of those with celiac disease are asymptomatic. No digestive problems at all to complain of. But the gluten is still damaging their systems, and when your body cannot get enough of a particular nutrient or enough calories, then it conserves.

I am grain free with other allergies. I still don't think I have identified all of my sensitivities. I still eat soy, but try not to consume too much.

Before I found out i was gluten sensitive last year I was at a 1 year stand still with my weight. After i cut it from my diet my body started responding within a month or two and the weight started to come off again. So it may be possible.
It could also be that your getting close to your goal weight, maybe you have to high of a calorie deficit? I know I had to play around with my calories recently because i was at a stand still again.

thank you so much for your responses, ladies! how did you find out you were allergic to gluten? did you just cut it out, or did a blood test confirm? I am going to get tested but my nutritionist said it won't be conclusive either way!

If the test is positive, it is positive. If it is negative, it may be false.

just wanted to follow up and say on most days i eat completely gluten free - i would say i've eliminated it from 75% of my diet, and it seems like i've finally worked past my plateau as a result. blood test was negative for gluten and wheat allergies. still, i do feel much better and my skin has cleared -- it is a tough change to make (and i have not gone soy-free) but so far, it seems to be making a BIG difference already.

    Hi,

The tests may be falsely negative I hear. Only way to no for sure is to go on a 2 week elimination diet/detox diet. This is the functional medicine/integrative nutrition approach. You need to eliminate ALL gluten, not just most or some. You would also need to eliminate: caffeine, dairy, soy, eggs, meat and artificial sweeteners, except Stevia. Plus there are some other fods to eliminate. See this helpful link below with shopping list included. There are 2 diff versions here. After 2 weeks you slowly add foods back in and see if you notice an intolerance (gas, bloating, diarrhea, etc.).
