What happens at maintenance calories?

Hi! Spinning off from the weight loss topic... What will happen if I continue my lifts, but eat at maintenance? I can't figure out if:
1. My weight will stay the same but I'll lose fat (more muscle, or do I need a cal surplus for that?)
2. I will not lose fat but my body composition will change (meaning I will gain muscles and pounds)
I don't know why this confuses me sooo much!
Basically, I'm happy with my size but wouldn't mind if I went down another size. I wear size 8 now. But what I really care about is getting muscley arms and nice looking legs. Nice looking tummy would be a plus  I definitely have extra fat on my arms and tummy and legs so should I keep at a deficit to lose that fat, or eat at maintenance to change my body composition?
I started SL 5 weeks ago and I haven't lost any weight since then and I've only lost half an inch from waist and half an inch from hips. But I'm trying to be patient and see what my results are in several more weeks. I enjoy lifting so that's not hard.
I guess I can't figure out if I should do deficit to lose fat, surplus to gain muscle, or maintenance for a little of both. lol! Thanks so much ladies. :flowerforyou:
ETA for the past few weeks I've been having about a 3000 calorie deficit per week without losing any lbs and not much in inches either. this is my first weight loss stall ....But, like I said, just trying to be patient and give the lifting time but not sure what to do about my cals

"only" half an inch... haha, I think that' sgreat, I'd gladly take a half inch in 5 weeks.
Um.
There's really no good answer for this -everyone is DIFFERENT. Number 1 is the most likely option, not that you will even add additional fiber to your muscles btu they might grow larger.
People who eat maintenance and carb cycle tend to report good results in body recomposition. I'd say its worth sticking with your maintenance (normal) eating + lifting for say, 2-3 months, see what happens, if you're not getting results try carb cycling for 2-3 months, and then again, see what happen.s0 -
Thanks tameko! After I posted this, I reminded myself that half an inch now is a lot more than half an inch at size 22 Kwim? Lol.0
