Out of the blue today, my son asked me if I wanted to walk with him in a 5k fun run....I nearly fell to the floor in shock!!! He hates
exercising but he has been going to the gym this month anyway, but I was thinking "YES!" What are some of the NSV's you have had with your kids?

Nice! My son has been doing daily summer exercise and has lost over 3 kg in our holiday!! He is so motivated now too and we bought a nice new pair of (really) expensive jeans on sale on Saturday. That he could fit these pants was so nice for him, so he has been trying them on every day even though it´s still shorts weather - just ´cause he likes the feeling.:happy:0

AWESOME NEWS! My son has lots of "I really want to lose weight" moments, and has done better about evening eating (after I go to bed). So I'm happy for him. Some of his "jeans" don't fit anymore, so he's frustrated and knows he needs to care more about the issue. Yesterday, he and my husband shared a psychologist appt. He has said he talked about food issues as well as how to better handle the frustrations of our 2 year old with the psychologist, but we haven't talked details yet. You guys have motivated me to talk more specifics and set some GOALS !!!!0

Two of my collegues had their sons at work today (same age as mine) and I was so chocked. Here we are, trying to keep our kids in a healthy weight rage and both of these boys were gigantic! It´s been several months since I last saw them, but unbelievable - my kids are nothing compared. So sad for these kids. And so motivating for me, that we are doing something proacitve!!0

My heart just breaks for the kids who get to the point where they are so huge...I was one of them and this is why I don't want
my son to get to that point. Your kids sound like they are doing great! I love how the one is trying on his jeans every day...LOL.
I can't wait for feeling like that too! My son has lots of "I want to lose weight" moments too, but slowly he is learning
the skills to eat healthier/work out. Etc. Sometimes it is hard because my hubby will say something like, "If you beat
your time from yesterday, we will go for a smoothie." Smoothies aren't that bad but I know my son would pick the much
less healthier version...and I don't want him to get into the habit of rewarding himself for successes with food. What a
bad habit that is...I should know, that is how I grew up. I have talked to my hubby about this and he agreed but
sometimes he "forgets"...he is not doing it maliciously but is stumped how to reward him iin a non food way. We don't
have tons of money to do stuff, and I don't want to be buying him things left and right and get him to the point where
he is obnoxious and spoiled...any ideas?0 -
Because of my son´s autism, we do alot of rewarding. And so it doesn´t amout to spoiling they get a star on a chart and when he has 10 stars he gets to choose a movie to rent or an activity (like a drive out to the airport to watch the planes), stuff like that. My 2 oldest are kind of old for that but my daughter felt left out, so she started getting stars too and is really pleased. She is wearing a pedometer and gets a star for every day she´s walked 5 km. She saves her stars to buy things (instead of allowance).
Every month we hang up a printed calender sheet where the stars go on and talk about what will give stars this month. It has to be something kind of "hard". He started getting stars for going with the taxi and got like 3 stars for getting a tooth pulled When it was that hard - he got to choose how many he thought was "fair"!0 -
Great ideas, thanks0

Big news!! My 12 year old entered the healthy BMI range when he was weighed today
He has been working so hard the last5 months and has lost 5 kg. He has also grown 2 cm so he now qualifies for a "normal" number. So proud of his hard work.0 -

Oh, that is so awesome! He must be so happy That is the best thing, isn't it?
We are still working on it and I can't wait for that day. Yesterday they had a fitness test at my son's school
and my son was shocked he could double the situps, etc, since last time.0 -
That is WONDERFUL !!!
My son has been letting me know he's really cut back on his night-eating. I'm in bed for my early, early morning work-schedule. And I guess that's when he was eating most (which is the worst).
But he has been proud of the cut-back. So, we'll see if it makes a difference in the scale!0
