Hi! My name is Kim. I've recently been diagnosed with PCOS. Since having my baby this past november I've gained over 50 pounds despite eating healthy and exercising. Everyone keeps telling me calories in/calories out in order to lose weight but that's not working for me :(
I need to find a group of supportive people that understand what it is like to battle your weight when you have PCOS.

Hi there! I just accepted your request. I love new friends!

I follow the "Eat more to weigh less" philosophy and I'm still working out the kinks, but it's been pretty good so far. I also watch my carbs, because I used to have an insulin resistance problem, but I'm not a super low-carber. I focus on getting crabs through fruits, veggies, and whole grains, and am trying to keep my net (carb-fiber) between 100 and 200. A lot of people with PCOS see good results with keeping their carbs lower, like under 100, but I've been having a hard time getting that low.

It's nice to meet you and I hope I can be a good support for you. Anyone else who reads this, feel free to friend me too!
  • hey girl..accepted your friend request :) always here to help and offer support. i got really serious about weight loss and exercise february 3rd (the day after I got back from a vacation, that's why I remember haha) within the first 3 months i had managed to lose 30lbs! my regular OBgyn recommended I see an OBgyn-endocrinologist so that i could fully learn about what was going on with my body. he then referred me to their nutritionist, who is now one of my favorite people in the world! haha :) getting a full grasp on what is happening inside and knowing how the things i eat and ways i exercise affect me have been both an inspiration and really great incentive. if you haven't seen an OBgyn-endo or a nutritionist, you might want to make an appointment. my biggest "tips" would be don't eliminate carbs- just choose the right ones. do some research about low glycemic index diets and foods and try to stick with that type of eating plan. eat lean healthy proteins and lots of fiber. exercise- even if it's just 20 minutes, do it..it helps SO much. don't beat yourself up about anything- people have cheat days and sometimes make the wrong choices, oh well- tomorrow is always a new day and you can always make a fresh start. it is icnredibly frustrating because you work your butt off twice as a hard for half the reward, but i promise you will get there :)

Hi Kim (and all you fellow PCOS gals welcome),

I remember going through that phase of exercising my guts out, dieting hard (i went down to 700 calories t one stage) only to be gaining weight at an astonishing rate and told I am 'obviously' eating too much and not exercising enough - by my doctor!

You CAN diet successfully if you control the hormone- insulin- cortisol cycle, then weight loss becomes as easy as it is for 'normal' people.

Hormone balance: 2g magnesium, calcium, vitamin d (in the right proportions). Vitamin c. Zinc. Done.
Insulin Resistance: 100mg COQ10 enzyme, MANAGE (not eliminate) carbs. Done.
Cortisol Overproduction: Restrict exercise to 35-45 minutes every second day. Done.

I lose a kilo (2.2lbs) each week. No starving. No flogging my guts out. Once your metabolic hormone are working FOR you instead of against you, we PCOS/IR CAN diet with the best of them.

    Best wishes to all. Xx

Thank you for posting, I am in the same boat, I have noticed that restricting carbs helps a lot, even more so than just counting calories.

OMG!!! OMG!!! I'm not sure what worries me more... Learning that you can get 'crabs' from fruit, veggies and whole grains... Or wondering where you have to put them for that to happen. ROFL!! ;-). Gosh I hope that was a typo LOL! ;-P

I was just diagnosed yesterday even though we have figured it to be true for about a month now. Yesterdays test and appt. just solidified it.

Not sure where to start, I feel so overwhelmed now. But at least I seem to know the answer to a lot of things. Now the hard part is just finding foods I can work with and get this weight gone!

I'm also looking for friends with PCOS. It can be such a difficult journey. I am just finally getting back into the swing of things -- exercising and trying to eat better. It is completely disheartening to be working out and eating less and still gaining weight, so I stopped caring for a while. I'm over it and back on track... hopefully ;)

I've been diagnosed with PCOS for almost a year now and I know how depressing and difficult it can be.
Just remember you have the wonderful blessing of your little girl. Pregnancy is so difficult for some of us (myself included).
Feel free to friend me, I'm here way too much and I log daily.
