Q:Rest Days before Competition this Saturday?

I have my first city-wide competition this Saturday at CrossFit Katy in Houston! I am taking Wednesday-Friday off this week from training of any kind as well as zumba, running, biking, swimming, or any other activity which elevates my heart rate. Walking is about all I'm allowed to do since I"m terrible about actually resting. I have two questions related to this:

1. Would a massage be beneficial the day before or the day after my competition?

2. On rest days, especially when you have multiple per week or in a row, do you notice an increase in calore consumption? I'm super hungry today even though I haven't done anything. Normally I go over on my rest day, but that surplus balances out over a week--this week I'll have more days than rest days and I"m concerned about the calories. I'm thinking just to listen to my body, but I was wondering if anyone else notices exceptional hunger on rest days--is it part of recovery?

Also, Is anyone doing this competition on Saturday?

Thanks,

Cass

I would ask a coach about the massage. A lot of times a massage can release toxins, (that's what they tell me!) and actually make you sore and sluggish for a few days. Maybe a massage therapist here has more info?

Good luck Cass! I know you are going to KILL it! Wish I could be there!
