Hi all thanks for joining!!

i thought it would be nive for us all to get to know each other a bit especially if we're planning a meet up.

i am claire, 27 and work as an HCA in derriford. i have a 2 year old son at home and have been married for just over a year and a half. i am not a true plymothian - i am an army brat!! lol. we lived in germany for 11 years and then oxford for 2 then we moved here.
my weaknesses are chocolate and bread!! lol. i love a bit of stodge. :) i also snack late at night. my turning point came after i had my son and i was with my sister shopping for the mother of the bride out fit ( for my mum of course!) and the sales girl said she couldnt beleve my sister had a baby three weeks ago! we were pregnant at the same time and our boys are 2 days apart. she is the type who springs back no matter what she eats. (grrrr) i then decided that i was going to lose the baby weight and more and since then it has been a struggle. i found MFP about a year ago and love it! i had lost 18 pounds but unfortunately due to some home issues with the husband i have put most of it back on through comfort eating.
i hate running but love swimming, horse riding, ice skating and walking.

so thats me. what about you?

    Hi!

I'm from Devon too.Born in Torbay and have lived in Dartington my whole life.I'm 20 and engaged to be married in November 2013 (no kids just yet haha) so that is a major motivator for me! I don't find it hard to eat healthy but I do struggle with cravings for carbs and sweet things...ice cream, pastries and all that good stuff, when i want it I really want it .I have lost 2 stone in the past 6 months healthily and am now just maintaining.I am 5ft 4.5,that half is important haha and 7st 12lb.I used to work as a HCA in a few different care homes,it's a very challenging job but amazingly rewarding! I'm now just setting up my own business with the Body Shop at home.My main forms of exercise are walking kettlebells and tae bo :) The weight will come off,no need to worry! Worth it to have your little boy no doubt!

I visit Plymouth all the time! Unfortunately I love Nandos and Chiquitos and Frankie & Benny's haha :)

Hey, I'm from Cornwall but only about 20 minutes drive from Plymouth. I'm 27 and I work as a Web Sales Admin for a company with a couple of e-commerce sites. I used to be a hairdresser but got made redundant and now I do this which is boring but easier, with less crappy hours and better pay! My other half has joined me on MFP since I started which is great and we are slowly losing weight together. The main things I struggle with are Haribo, calorific coffee, sweets and takeaways. I still have all these things though, I have to have a life too! Thankfully, since I went on holiday in May I no longer have a deadline to work to, so I can be a bit more relaxed about it, as long as the weight is going down I don't really mind now. I'm 5'3 3/4" (that 3/4" is necessary when you're as short as me!) and have just reached the goal I set when I started MFP of 9 stone 4. Now I'm aiming for 9 stone. I struggle with exercise but I don't mind running, although I prefer to run fast, shorter distances, I like cardio boxing and dancing.

I'm in Plymouth often too. I mostly like Costa, Mr Buns, Pizza Hut and Arribas. I am happy for my diet that Woolworths is no longer there, that pick and mix selection would have been murder. ;)

    Hello

I live in Truro but I'm an emmet. I moved here in 2008 from Cheltenham where I lived for 15 years, but I originate from Suffolk.

I work near Camborne as a Data Analyst. I've never been married and have one grown-up son, (17), who's at Truro College doing a BTec in Musical Performance, so most of my 'relaxing time' is spent trying to ignore him drumming / tapping on anything and everything ALL THE TIME, lol.

I really love being in Cornwall, I have always lived as close to the countryside as I possibly can, but the beauty of Cornwall still takes my breath away nearly every day.

Due to working ridiculously long hours at a desk, meaning a) I was on my butt all the time, and b) I never had time to go out and meet new friends so I never socialised, I have put on a stone for every year I have been here :frown: Finding this site has given the the incentive to get off my now very big butt and do something about it. I am now going to go out for a brisk walk every lunchtime, eat healthily and start to enjoy life. If I can't find the incentive to get out and about in the beautiful Cornish landscape there's no hope for me

Hi I'm from East Devon and have recently started on here but think it's fab so far. I have 2 children 14 and 19. I'm trying to build up my fitness and lose a stone and a half . It's been great to have people to help motivate you especially when cake is a weakness not to mention chocolate haha. I am on school holiday at the moment so time leads to many temptations haha. I'm determined to do this though. Good to meet you all x

    Hi all!

37 year old Dad and husband here, currently living in North Cornwall with my wife, Natalie, and three kids.

Been fighting the flab for years. Went from 17St to 11.5 St on the ridiculous Atkins diet about 7 years ago and, of course, put it all bank on (and then some).

Starting cycling a few times a week and the good old Wii Sports has been dusted off and brought back into service.

I work from home so it's gone on gradually over the past 5 years. As I don't wear suits or the like, sitting around all day in comfy clothes doesn't do the awareness of weight gain much good!

Determined to get back to my slender self before I turn 40. When I do go up to London for work I'm in a position where lots of people look at you so I want to build up my confidence to go out and be proud and not hide in dark and voluminous attire.

Anyway, a quick hi from me. Natalie, my wife, is also trying this method of weight loss as well on MFP so we're in it together.

Yay, another couple on here! It does make it easier when you can both eat similar lower calorie meals without one whinging and feeling deprived, also you can talk about calories and not bore the other person to tears!

    Hi from Launceston!

Just a quick intro, I'm a mum of three and currently studying an MA at Plymouth. I was done to have a gastric bypass this summer after 9 years of considering it then two years waiting for it, well long story short, it's now cancelled as I want one last try at losing the weight without butchering my body!

I'm enjoying using the app, works really well for me.

    Afternoon All

I'm Debbie from Exeter, not longed turned 40 and looking to shift a stone (min.) before Christmas.

Have heard lots of good things about MFP, so fingers crossed.....

With the family onboard at home, the girls in the office are also partaking in the count down to Christmas diet but using other methods (Weight Watchers, Slimming World, etc), making those 'shall we go and get cakes' moments a little easier!

Exerise is my biggest downfall, as generally I find it easier 'to do' other things

I'm crap at doing stuff by myself, so if anyone local to Exeter fancies taking a fitness class and doesn't mind a 'tagger alonger' please please please let me know.

Look forward to 'speaking' with you over the coming weeks!

    Hi all,

Just found this group. I live in Torquay, in Devon. I've been here a few months a lost 50lb to date, still got 86 to go.

Would love it if there were some exercise meet ups or classes - might be the extra push. Not sure I'm up for running though LOL! Perhaps more a hike on Dartmoor?

I've always been a bit overweight but it got very out of control over the last few years. I'm currently taking an aqua aerobics class on a Tuesday and and a boxercise class on a Wednesday - its ladies only and awesome!

i have no will power to say no to cakes/crisps/biscuits/nice things.

I've worked for the NHS for 10 years and recently set up my own business, still working in the health sector. I work more now than I did when I was employed! I'm also currently half way through an MA from Exeter uni in public administration.

hello! I'm Ycats (or Stacy)! I am a 24 American but I married my British Sailor and I now live in the UK. I live just south of Plymouth and have been in the UK for 2 years now. I've tried alot of different weightloss stuff and alot of it has worked! but MFP seems the most practical and has worked the best for me because it lets me eat hat I want to eat in reason :P And heck! It's free! I have learned over the years that Carbs=weight for me and Protein =good :P

I have weak lungs due to illness as a teen so my Cardio is quite bad though getting better! I work in a care-home that has me on my feet for long shifts but now that I'm on night shifts my body doesn't know how and when to eat yet as it's a new shift for me.

looking forward to the Support from local people!

    Hi
I'm Tracy and I live in Pensilva, Cornwall. I've lost a stone so far, but desperately trying to lose another one before I get married in Cuba in December. I lose weight very slowly despite sticking religiously to my calorie limit and walking 4 miles a day! So it's hard to keep going with it, although the wedding dress is a major motivation at the moment!
I work in Plymouth (near Derriford) as a Project Manager and I'm currently taking part in the Civil Service 10,000 steps walking challenge.
Apart from walking, I enjoy gardening and horse riding (I have 3 horses).
    Tracy x

    P.S. Claire - I think I recognise you from Derriford hospital .....
