Hey everyone Im Courtney. I just joined MFP today so im super new to this! Im really glad I found this group because I feel that most of you know what im going thru.
My husband is In the Navy and is currently deployed! Were 5 months down so far and it seems like its dragging on.
My problem is I wanna loose weight before he gets home but I just cant stay on track!
I have my days where I just wanna lay on the couch and eat a whole container of frosting. I was wondering if anyone has good ways to stay on track thru the rest of this deployment and loose the weight I want!
Thankks:)

When my husband left for basic training, I started the Couch to 5K program. I have never been a runner and it is always something he wanted me to be able to do with him. By his graduation two months later, I was 18lbs down and we ran just over 2 1/3 miles together. That kept me HUGELY motivated to stick with it while he was gone. I know I had days where I wanted to lay around and eat donuts and ice cream, but whenever I didn't feel like working out, I reminded myself of the taxing workouts he was doing every day and pushed myself to go anyway.0

I'd also recommend the Couch 2 5k program. I started it last year during a deployment and I really liked have the structure of a program to follow since it helped to keep me motivated and busy! It was also something I could do on my own, even though it's better if you have someone to do it with you. It's a great way to get started with running - something that I thought I'd never like and now I'm training for a half marathon.
There are always going to be days where you don't feel like doing anything but these runs are only a half hour and you feel so much better after you are finished.
Good luck and I hope the rest of your deployment goes quickly!0 -
I know deployments are hard, but frosting???? Come on now, you can do better. The key I found for getting through a deployment: keep yourself as busy as humanly possible. If you've got a lot of free time on your hands, lay out the calendar and write out a workout schedule for yourself for the next few months and then stick to it. Go out and hang out with other people trying to get in shape. Also, do you work? If not, it's worth considering. It will give you something to do and give you extra spending money (for cute clothes when you lose the weight!). Just because he's deployed doesn't mean you stop living your life Find a workout program that you like and stick to it. If there are other mil spouse around you, they might be going through the same thing. Meet up with them and see if they'd like to workout together! You're not alone Lots of us are doing this at the same time with you. Good luck, lean on family and friends, and keep smiling. He'll be home soon before you know it!0

I agree with the others. Start a program....whether its c25k, a beachbody workout or 30ds. It's great to have some kind of structure. I also found that when I went to classes at the gym regularly, when I didn't show up they'd ask me where I'd been and I'd feel guilty. Another idea is to "pay" yourself for every workout, good eating day, whatever....you can use that money to get your nails done or get an outfit for your hubby's homecoming. And stay busy!!!!0

I'm really glad someone brought it up! I started the program a few months ago, and slowly moved away from it but i think I'll start it again! My husband is also deployed, gosh it sucks, and I my biggest motivating factor is that i know he's getting fit out there and I want to be one sexy looking couple when he returns. I'm also in the military myself so I have mandatory PT three times a week whether I like it or not, so that helps
Keep your head up and in the game girl. Consistency is key. Good luck!0 -
I'm in the middle of deployment as well and here's what works for me. I have a note to myself on my refrigerator that I wrote the day before he left. It says I promise to eat healthy, exercise, make art (that's my hobby), and put on real clothes. I see it every day and it reminds me that I promised my husband I would take care of myself while he was gone. I plan my menus every week, buy fresh ingredients, and try recipes that he wouldn't eat (he's a picky eater). It's easy for me to track calories because I'm only making enough for one. And I just don't buy food that I shouldn't eat-- having a grocery budget helps.
Are you connected with your FRG? If not, get involved. Ours is great-- we have coffee every week to catch up and dinner every Saturday night. You just have to stay busy and stay connected. Find yourself some projects to do. I figure I'm going to spend half of my time with the Navy doing deployments, so I need to be as content as possible. Good luck0 -
Keep busy!!!!
My husband just recently came back from a deployment. But while he was gone I joined a gym and took up some new hobbies. Got ready for our move to Germany....
The thing that kept me going was imagining the look on his face when he saw me after not seeing me for months!!
You have to really want it; find another wife whose husband is deployed and become workout buddies. Keep each other accountable. When you have days where you want to lay on the couch watching One tree Hill reruns, eating cookies =] (guilty) get your butt up and go to the gym or put a workout dvd on! Or if it's nice outside go for a walk, there are alot of clubs for spouses who like to walk around!0 -
I know everyone has their excuses but deployment is a little bit of the reason im here. Do get me wrong, I've been overweight my whole life but going through my first deployment in a new town & working at a new job was rough. I definitely put on more weight while my hubby was gone. Hes been back since july and has had to leave for 2 weeks here & there, and is now currently gone again for 2 months and im much more motivated now! Whats helping me so far, whether you live on or off base, base has some excellent group classes. i went this morning to a spin class that kicked my *kitten* but im so glad i went.
Good Luck Courtney, You'll do awesome!:happy:0
