Hey everyone!
I'm so glad there was a group for this on here! I am a graduate student (studying law and public health). I was diagnosed with PCOS my freshman year of college, when I stopped having a period for about 10 months. I was immediately put on birth control and seemed to be okay. In fact, once I was put on hormones, I lost 21 lbs in a month. I went for a check up a month later and the nurse thought she had the wrong chart!
Being a graduate student, I've had my ups and downs with stress, social eating, and of course maintaining my birth control prescription. Between my $1000 law school books and being away from my trusted OB/GYN for long stretches at a time, I haven't been able to keep consistent.
This summer, has been pretty awful. I started p90x, and was diligent with my tracking, and still gained 15lbs (and no, not muscle - I wish!). I was so heart broken that I fell off the bandwagon for a while. I'm back now, and committed to being healthy! I also started breaking out, and getting dandruff (neither of which is a natural occurrence for me), and I seem to have developed some blood sugar issues as well!
I'd love to get any information from any of you on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle either with or without hormone therapy. I'm terrified about my future if it keeps going like this! Is there a type of diet that any of you have found particularly helpful? What are some good exercises? And how do you deal with those periods (when you get them)?!
HELP!
