I'm coming up on my 2 year diagnosis date, 11/3/2010. I was stage 3 and was put through it all (as we all are), double mastectomy, 8 chemo, 33 radiation, reconstruction and now tamoxifen for 5 years. I lost 40 lbs during chemo and radiation and was at a healthy weight and happy about feeling great after treatment. Then started taking tamoxifen and the pounds piled on. Needless to say, very disappointing and feeling fat and not so fabulous but at least cancer free. My body just doesn't match how I feel inside, which is very happy, joyful and full of life. A friend told me about Fitness Pal and their success so I thought what the heck, I'll try anything to get a handle on this weight gain. I'm hoping that paying attention to everything I eat and getting regular exercise will make my body match my feelings.

Hi Jenny! Welcome to the group that we all wish didn't have to exist. A lot of us have posted our stories under the original topic thread, so if you have time you might want to browse there.

I was diagnosed 8/11, had 4 surgeries including lumpectomy, 8 chemos, 30 radiation treatments, and am on a year of Herceptin and 5 years of Tamoxifen.

Every assumes that cancer patients waste away to nothing, but my doc told me to expect to gain 15-20lbs. It's the triple whammy of steroids, Tamoxifen and chemically induced menopause.

Disheartening, but these gals are the greatest. I'll send you a friend request, if that helps you along your journey at all.

    Kathy
