Hi everybody, we are joining a gym on September 1st and I'll be starting Stronglifts then. I am SO excited! It's all I talk about...I think I am starting to annoy my husband. LOL. I have a question though....

Just with my husband's and my schedules, I'll be going to the gym early in the morning before he leaves for work and before the babies are awake, so I'll be at the gym by myself. This gym is open 24-hour but it's only staffed like 8am to 8pm. So what happens when I get to the heavier weights and need a spotter and I am there by myself....this might be a dumb question but I don't know what to do about that. I mean, I guess I could ask a random other exerciser if they'd mind spotting me, but if it were me I'd be slightly annoyed with that request because they are there to work out, not spot me, kwim? Just wondering how you all work around that, or what you do.

Also, I'm looking more "friends" so feel free to add me if you want to! Looking forward to sharing my progress with you all. Right now my goals are to squat 150 (I weigh 140ish, so a little more than bodyweight), deadlift 200 lbs, and bench 150. And to be do 5 unassisted pull-ups in a row. Once I reach those goals I'll re-evaluate.

Does your gym have a power cage or a squat rack? You don't really need a spotter if you use these.

Yeah.....if you have a power rack or squat cage, you don't really need a squater. Just sit down if you can't get back up and the bar will rest on the rack (make sure you set it up to catch the bar if needed). As far as bench, if you start out where you last left off, you pretty much know where you are at. Don't try for a one rep max alone obviously. If all else fails, you can do the roll of shame (roll the bar from your chest to your tummy and then sit up). As you get more comfortable, you will know what you can or can't lift. As you progress, what was difficult will become easy peasy for you. Best of luck!

For bench press, now that the weights are getting heavier and i am starting to fail (at unexpected times none the less) I just pull the bench into the power cage and adjust the side bars to catch the bar if I fail. Works like a charm! No spotter needed. No roll of shame lol.

Don't know why I haven't thought of this yet.....duh! I was tempted to try it on the smith....and then I remembered that I hate the smith :) Thanks for the tip!
