Hey guys,
I'm Tin...I have a lot of things going on in my head that make weight loss difficult.
I have borderline personality disorder, which has resulted in literally no self esteem. I've also been obese my entire life.
This is really the first time that I haven't defeated myself already. The changes have been slow but I've successfully changed my diet, and incorporated logging into my daily routine. Currently I'm working on getting to the gym 6 days a week...tonight was the first time I went. I guess the hardest part is the days when I just don't care. It used to be a self sabotage relationship, but tonight when I went to the gym I felt great when I got off the treadmill. All the pain in my legs and feet (I have nuropothy) was gone. Sadly soon after a bunch of muscular guys got on the equipment next to me and I had to leave because they made me nervous. I'm also agoraphobic. o.x
So I'm hoping to find ways to deal with these things. Maybe if anyone has a little trick that gets them out of their funk?

Hi TinGirl. Welcome to MFP :flowerforyou:
Three of the things that seem to be most difficult about BPD are the degree of self attack, the general chaos when things are bad and self sabotage. So I would try and focus on improving your skils in the following areas: being kind to yourself, especially after self attack; focusing on one thing at a time; watching out and planning for the set back that usually follows a step forward.
If you've not tried DBT then it really is worth finding a group to join. Here is a great website run by people who have BPD with information about DBT: http://www.dbtselfhelp.com/
Make a promise to yourself every day to look after yourself and if it doesn't work out, start over. It's never too late. You've already done the hardest bit - making changes for the first time. Well done. Good luck!0 -
Thank you so much, your post was so encouraging. I will definitely look into a DBT group.
I guess that is the hardest part, not letting the self attack derail you long term.
BUT I've been to the gym everyday this week and I've lost two inches in my chest, one around my belly (I'll take it! I'm diabetic and have PCOS) and two in my hips in the last three weeks.
Trying to keep positive about it all.0 -
You're welcome
Every day in the gym and a two inch loss - that's a great start and shows that you can do it! There will be set backs but as long as you get back on track every time you will get there in the end - that's as true of staying positive as losing weight.0
