To re-elect President Obama,
all of us should be participating in this effort.
Due to "citizens united" ruling by SCOTUS this year,
now corporate entities can spend bazillions in flamboozling the public with misinformation in elections. (not hard to do, btw, as seen by large following of ClusterFox news)
The GOP has also passed multiple laws restricting early voting, ID req'd, etc.
and shockingly, "Mr Howell" from Gilligan's Island show,
and his new VP pick, "Kill Medicare" Ryan, are neck in neck in the polls with President Obama.
DO SEEK OUT YOUR LOCAL DEMOCRATIC HEADQUARTERS and show up and volunteer.
Or, for armchair activists,
you can also sign up to just make phone calls to likely voters, here: http://www.barackobama.com/

Especially you young people, you need to show up this time like never before.
VOITNG takes 5 minutes,
and you can early vote, which is SUPER EASY!!!

Many states allow one to register to vote online, too. Learn what ID is needed in your state.
Feel free to post questions, or message me, i have registered 100s of voters. Lots of myths out there, too, about who can, and can not vote.0 -
I'm actually pretty excited because I'm participating in a services class this semester for my major. I'm not sure what exactly we're going to be doing, but it said something about working the campaign in the class description. I'm pretty sure that means that I get to go around harassing people until they register to vote.
Also, I got my boyfriend to register to vote this year and we're going together, as a family.
In all honesty, I used to have not much of a problem with Rmoney other than his views on gay marriage, but now that he's picked Ryan as VP, I have a huge problem. We don't need more of the Bush-era tax cuts that sent us into the hole to begin with.
ETA: I'm not against tax cuts, I'm against irresponsible tax cuts.0 -
GOOD ON YOU for pitching in, KaleidoscopE!
YAY!!
It's great info to have on hand, when registering voters, that in almost all states, ex-cons CAN vote,
yet, are almost invariably mistaken about they can not vote.
worth ensuring that IS true in whatever state you are working with. Let's get these excons to the polls, lol!
IF all the young ppl ever ever showed up to vote,
the way the geezers do,
it'd be a powerful force.
Sadly, many of the new voting laws will make it harder for college students to vote in the state they are currently living in.
*sigh*.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. – Plato0 -
Yeah, i so agree with your concerns about extremist Ryan,
he is for the govt forcing raped and incest victims to bear the child of the rapist. I feel that is a decision best left to the woman.
His proposed federal 'personhood' laws would make many forms of birth control, as well as most fertilization efforts illegal.
His idea of sending senior citizens out into the "for profit" healthcare system, with a voucher, to purchase healthcare policies, is frightening.
Ryan also re-defines rape into categories, as well, in the 3rd bill the congress put forth in 2010. wha?
tons of his ideas give me the willies.
Actually, the vast bulk of the GOP gives me the willies........so much crapola.
and for sure, gay rights, as well as many women's rights, even voting rights, allllllllll will take a step backwards in a GOP administration.
and the thing about Romney that bothers me the most,
is not his idea to lower taxes on the top tiers of the rich (we've tried that, it does NOT "trickle down")
but his refusal to even clearly state his plans.
on anything.
The way he IS a puppet for whatever special interest is standing next to him at the moment.
Romney is a flip-flopper, blank slate, without a spine.......no way to know what he is for or against, really, cuz it changes by the day, at times. (like how Romney has stated his budget plan, is "just like" Ryan's plan,
every other day last week,
and then, on alternate days, saying his (romney's) budget plan is NOT like Ryans.
sigh.
His refusal to discuss it is stunning, too.
It is a myth that GOP is better at balancing the budget, too,
stats bear out the opposite. Happy to provide links for anyone in doubt.0 -
Getting so close! I'm finding myself way more worked up this election year (Palin kind of made things easier!) :sick:0

i am loving registering voters, door to door. I get some exercise, too, nice lil bonus.
I target neighborhoods that are known to be heavily democratic, and i especially target apt buildings, and neighborhoods where the bulk of the residents are RENTERS. (not the neighborhoods where ppl have lived there for eons and own the home, THOSE ppl usually are already registered).
but renters usually have to RE-register, or are young ppl and have never registered.
I start out with introducing myself as a volunteer with the Obama campaign,
and if door doesn't get slammed in my face, lol, then i ask if they are an Obama supporter,
and if they are,
THEN i ask if they are registered,
if they have proper I.D. to vote,
if they have moved since last election,
and
do they KNOW ABOUT EARLY VOTING.
*ANYONE* CAN EARLY VOTE, it takes 5 minutes........wayyyyyyyyyy easier than trying to get to the polls on a workday weekday, and having to stand in line for hours. Lots of ppl think a person needs a doctor's note or something to early vote.
It's very fun to register new voters, imo. Or to RE-register those who have moved to new district (as often happens with renters)
Even when i find Obama supporters who ARE registered, i make sure they know about where and how to
EARLY VOTE. <
SOooo much easier.
Is very good feeling to be participating again in an election. I much enjoy it. I also much enjoy the others at the local democratic/Obama office, they're really cool ppl.0
