Anyone else split the routine?

I'm working towards powerlifting comp in December, and have been advised a good 'split' is Push, Pull, Legs so you work different area's 3 days a week rather than just the regular 5x5 lifts.
Anyone else do this? I've been doing 5x5 reps since starting up again. But do like the division of the days as I can add more routines i.e box squats, farmers walks, dumbbell work to improve grip etc on the relevant days.
As long as I cover all 3 area's in the week is that ok? So I can see progression on weight lifted.

I wouldn't recommend you take stronglifts and do that, there are other programs that do it.
I forget, what is your history on barbell compounds? Have you done them before? Strong lifts is a great way to increase your base weights and learn the basic movements you'll use for a split. If you already have that, you could do a split *instead* but I wouldn't do 5x5 - that's really a lot of work. No one should be doing 5x5 after a certain point of weights (varies by person).
So I mean - I'd give this a try, go through, do your stalls and then instead of dropping to 3x5 you can swap to something like 5/3/1 (which is Press + assistance on day 1, DL + assistance on day 2, Bench + assistance day 3, squat + assistance day 4).
alternately, move through 5x5 and just do 1 stall instead of 2, drop to 3x5, do 1 stall, then switch.0 -
Thanks, am meeting up with a PL female at my gym on Thursday so will work out if the routine will fit in with 5x5 or 5,3,1. Thanks for your help.0
