Slow Cooked Beef Adobo (for angelbaby84)................I presume could also be done on the stove or in the oven like regular stew.
750g braising beef
1tbsp vegetable oil
1 large onion
2 garlic cloves
2 tbsp plain flour
450ml beef stock (I only used 350ml)
4 tbsp soy sauce
4 tbsp rice or wine vinegar
1tbsp caster sugar
2 bay leaves
juice of 1 lime
salt and pepper
rice to serve
Calories c. 310 if made into 4 servings. (Rice would be extra).
Brown the beef in some of the oil and remove from pan. Add oil and onions and fry til just starting to brown. Add garlic, fry 2 minutes. Stir in flour and gradually add stock. Add soy, vinegar, sugar, bay leaves, salt and pepper and bring to boil. Add beef to slow cooker, pour the rest of the mix over it, cover and cook 8-10 hrs on LOW. Add lime juice before serving.
(I am newish to slow cooking and have started reducing the liquid content lately - I find a lot of recipes have an unnecessarily high quantity of liquid. I used 350 ml the last time but think I will reduce again next time).

The only way I can stay on a "diet" is to make sure the food I do it is flavorful. This is similar to something I make but I never thought of adding the vinegar. I can't wait to give it a try. Thanks for great recipe.0

I so TOTALLY agree! I can never understand when I look at people's diaries and it has penance written all over it. For me it has to be tasty - a reward maybe psychologically for eating less of it? I can't do plain, dull food I'm afraid. I think when you know your way around food a bit it is so easy to make the best of your calories. My concession has to be in less calories but in turn I up the flavour.0
