Gaining *gasp!*

Hi all! So excited that there's a good support group aimed at nursing mamas!

I wondered if anyone else has had experience with this: I've been eating clean and within my caloric goal (1600/day) for 35 days now. At first, I lost pretty consistently (down 9lbs in just under a month), but this past week I GAINED BACK 2 LBS! I've never claimed to be a math person, but I can not understand how this is possible. I have not altered my eating or exercising habits drastically, nor do I feel I've had a sudden increase in stress levels. My intake is still under or meeting my goal!

My diet stays roughly the same, with variation as to the foods that give me similar nutrition. I guess I could understand a plateau at this point, but weight gain? This is so disheartening! I haven't yet had my period (daughter is 8 months), so I don't see how it can be related to water retention within my cycle, unless nursing moms continue to cycle without the uterine shed? Sorry to go graphic!

Does any have any advice? Or at least have had a same hiccup in their journey?

you might try a day of 1400 cals then a day of 1600 then a day of 1200 or something to mix it up for your body. I have heard others say that when you hit a plateau you should have a cheat day...and eat whatever you want to get your body moving. If sticking with the same calories every day isn't working, then this can't hurt too much, right?

actually since you are already at 1600, you should go 1800, 1400, 1800,1400 or somthing

I went through the same thing and calorie cycling worked for me. It is exactly like the other person said - do 2000, 1400, 1750, 1500, 1850, 1400, 1600. Also ask yourself if you are eating enough. Eat back your calories burned while bf. I average 1800 - 1900 (net) calories a day and I ebf my 4 month old.

Thanks! I'll try cycling. My husband convinced me to have a cheat meal yesterday and I had a slice of pizza and a small ice cream cone. Wouldn't you know it? Dropped down a pound overnight.

I have also worried that I'm eating too few calories. My 8 month old nurses regularly (we're doing BLW so she's still getting the majority of her nutrition from breast milk). It think it's just hard to get over the mental mindset that weight loss means I have to be eating next to nothing!
