Pantry vices: asking your family to sacrifice?

I've been a cereal eater my entire life and it's really been my go-to junk food. I don't really eat a lot of sugary cereal, but still it's just not healthy snack foods - except for some fiber. Anyhow, it's at our home because everyone likes to eat it and it's convenient.
The other night at dinner though, I asked them to give it up so that I could change this habit for all of us. They were supportive and in the end, we decided we could all live with mini-wheats only. (I don't eat them).
So I'm committing to making more protein breakfasts for my girls - eggs, greek yogurt with honey and fruit etc. I'm also going to encourage oatmeal too. It's more work for sure, but I think I need to make it a priority.
The fact is, this is a great healthy change for them and the rest of their lives - so we all win.
Have any of you ever asked your family to give up something you just don't want around the house? Would love to hear.
