Yea, I ran the Olympics in '73 too ;) I know what you mean though.

    Interesting tidbit...Galloway wasn't a walk/jogger then.
    Probably not. :-)

On topic - I run marathons, have run one marathon using the Galloway method, and train people using the Galloway Program. It is possible to run a decent time using the Galloway method. The one I ran was the year I started here on MFP and was the same year I restarted exercising, lost weight, quit smoking, and quit drinking a lot. I ran that marathon in 3:50 and while that is not an award winning time it's above average for all males and not too shabby for over 50 males. Since then I ran a 3:32 just walking through some of the water points.

Bottom line from my Galloway running and training experience -
    1. You can run a good time with this method although I am not convinced that you will run faster than if you ran a well executed marathon on top of a good training plan.
    2. If you run a good time with the method its because you have trained hard, raised your fitness to the necessary level, and have the mental toughness to push yourself when really tired. Using the Galloway method on top of a poor fitness base will yield poor results.

I am using this method for training for my first half. I have a lot of orthopedic issues and by changing my mechanics every few minutes, I am able to go much longer and my joints don't hurt as bad. Also, my average time doesn't change a whole lot with or without the walk interval. And really, it's only a minute. Good luck with whatever you choose to do! I know that I'll be running my half at 4:1 intervals! Can't wait until October!
