IT band pain?

I previously ran for about two years, training for half marathons, 10Ks, etc. I severely injured my IT band and the dr suggested I take 2 months off. I have just started back last week VERY slowly (1.5-3 miles three times per week) and already my IT band gave me trouble on a 3 miler this morning. Any advice?

Foam rolling 3x a day on average has made a tremendous difference for me.
Early in the process I was also wearing a strap above my knee, which did enable me to run farther than I had been able to previously, but I was SO glad when I realized I didn't need to wear that thing anymore.0
