Week 9, Sept 6

I'm on hold.

I saw my physical therapist yesterday. I was in a lot of pain -- all up and down my right leg (same one with my IT Band issue -- same one with the stress fracture, and same one with the blood clot). I was thinking it was a flare up of the IT Band.

My dear PT Doc did some tests, and proved to herself that I have a pinched nerve. At least some, if not all, of my current leg pain is a result of that. I don't know why, but that made me happy to know that it's a different problem, and not a setback in what the physical therapist has been working with me since early June.

With her, I worked on my planks. We worked on my pushups. My hands were still too close to my body. I was "cheating" ... closer apparently is easier, but puts a lot more strain on the back.

I haven't been happy with my chiropractor. (Wham, bam, thank you ma'am. That's $30, please.")

Found a new chiropractor, and was actually able to get in today. Because my PT Doc recommended him, he's giving me a discount. (He doesn't take my insurance, but is willing to charge me what my copay would be.) Today we did X-rays and some other tests. He briefly showed me that there is significant nerve and muscle damage ... or unbalance or something. These heat tests -- never saw the likes of this before -- shows increased (or decreased?) temperatures in nerves and muscles -- left and right of spine should be equal, and should have a specific shape -- mine is quite different from "normal ..." but then, those of you who are getting to know me, know I'm NOT normal! :)

I go back on Monday to review the x-rays and the nerve and muscle reports. I'll get a quick adjustment on Monday. On Tuesday, I will go back to discuss a treatment plan and discuss the full costs, etc.

I was concerned with the noises that I heard in my neck/back the last time, and the tingling that I've felt during pushups in recent days.

So, I'm on hold.

After Monday or Tuesday's appointment with the chiropractor, I will re-evaluate things. At this point, I'm planning to continue with the challenge. As long as that still seems like a good idea, I will do another exhaustion test, using my newest form, and decide then where I should start up again.

Well, thanks, friends, for taking the time to read my novel! I didn't plan to get this long-winded!

The good:
1. I have a new resource. (Really liked the new chiropractor).
2. I have new information -- and more coming. The pain isn't in my head, it's in my back/neck!
3. After acupuncture yesterday, I felt better today. And I had acupuncture again today. Walked out better than I walked in.
4. I found out that there is a community acupuncture here in my own town, so I might not have to travel for 30 minutes (in non-rush hour traffic) to get to the acupuncture studio!
5. I have faith that I'm on the right track. Between PT, chiro and acupuncture, I WILL get well -- and soon!

    :flowerforyou: Hello, Ladies!!!!
Bonnie, I just don't even know what to say other than I am just so sorry you are having so many challenges. At the same time, I think you are an AMAZING woman and your courage and determination are unmatched by anyone I know. I have had pinched nerves before (NOTHING LIKE YOURS) and back injuries in the past. I have a wonderful chiropractor but it did not help the pinched nerve - actually made it worse - I ended up finding a fantastice DO - Dr of Osteopathy - between him and physical therapy it helped me tremendously. Once I was healed, that was when I started exercising; that and high bloodpressure was my "wake up call". The physical therapy helps soooooo much - they help with proper form; once you feel up to it and if you are in a position to do it, I would HIGHLY recommend a GOOD personal trainer - find one that is focused on stressing proper form that not only gets you the full benefit of the exercise but also reduces the possibility of injury. The physical therapist is likely a tremendous help here also. Ok, I'll quit babbling now. And here is a big hug.

Brunogota, there will be times when I've stopped for one reason or another. Life gets in the way. But I've learned to just forgive myself and jump right back into it as soon as I can. You can do it. Please stick with it.

As for moi, well, I repeated Week4/Day2 yesterday and I DID IT!!!!! I was shaking like as aspen leaf by the end and hardly holding myself up but I DID IT. I am finding that I have to repeat days. I also take a longer break in between sets and sometimes take two days "off" from the pushups. I also realize that my arms are never reeeeeeeeely rested....meaning, Wednesday was my session with my personal trainer....I did bench presses and rowing, plus weigted lunges. So my arms never had a "day off" really. Which even amazed me more that I was able to do what I did yesterday. I am going to do this if it takes me 6 months - it doesn't matter! We are doing it!!!!

My pushups were 23/28/23/23/33 - YIPPPPPPEEEEEE!

Ok, now I will quit rambling - today is my "day off" - HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!!!!

    XOXO
(and thanks for reading my novel, too!)
