tales from my youth

My Grandfather used to tell me stories from his youth, one of my favorites was about his father being taken by some bandits. He [my great grandfather] was captured just outside Tishomingo Oklahoma [the Oklahoma territories back then] and held behind an old shack hidden in a small gully.
The bandits tied him up and told him that in the morning they would probably kill him. That night they drank and partied, in the morning one of the bandits came up to my great grandfather and asked if he had any last requests before the killed him. He said yes, that he wanted to say goodbye to his horse. If you know cowboys, you know how they feel about their horse, it really was not a strange request. The bandit agreed and escorted my great grandfather to his horse, my great grandfather leaned and whispered in the horses ear.
As my grandfather told the story, the horse clawed his hoof at the ground, shook its head up and down, than took off out of the gully at top speed. The bandit looked at me great grandfather in a confused way, than led him back behind the shack to inform the other bandits what had happened. Arguments and shouting and some fighting were heard by my great grandfather. After some time the bandits came out of the shack with murder in their eyes. One of them raised his pistol toward my great grandfather but before he pulled the trigger, my great grandfather's horse came back....with a naked blonde girl riding.
The bandits forgot all about my great grandfather, grabbed the nude girl and carried her into the shack. According to my grandfather, they probably gave her some clothes and asked her to cook dinner (I was only 7 when he told me the story).
The next day the bandits came out of the shack, [the girl must have been a good cook because my great grandfather said they were all smiling] and told my great grandfather that they it was time to die, did he have any last requests.
My great grandfather told them yes, that he wanted to say goodbye to his horse. That must have touched one of the bandits because my great grandfather said the bandit shouted "yipie". They led my great grandfather to his horse and again he whispered in the horses ear. The horse repeated the previous days response, pawing the ground, shaking its head, and taking off at top speed out of the gully.
According to my great grandfather, the bandits liked the idea of the horse running free because the bandits looked at each other and smiled. They took my great grandfather back behind the shack, threw him a shovel and told him to dig his own grave. He began digging, slowly, and just as he finished as one of the bandits was pointing his pistol at my great grandfathers head, the horse returned. This time the horse returned with a naked red headed girl riding. Just as the day before, my great grandfather was tied up again and the girl was carried into the shack. My grandfather said it was to give her some clothes and ask her to clean up the shack [remember I was 7].
There must have been a lot to clean because my great grandfather said that he heard the furniture moving and the bed must have been heavy because there was a lot of furniture moving and heavy breathing. The next morning the happy smiling bandits [clean shack and well fed] walked to my great grandfather and told him again that they were going to kill him and asked if he had any last requests. He told them yes, that once again he wanted to say goodbye to his horse. It was the third day in a row that my great grandfather thought of his horse as his last request, so all the bandits smiled and shouted "oh hell yes, this is ****ing awesome". The bandits walked my great grandfather to his horse.
My great grand father grabbed the horse by one ear, than by the other ear, looked the horse directly in its eyes and said in a loud clear voice, "POSSIE, I SAID POSSIE".
That is my favorite bed time story, for some reason he never told it when grandma was tucking me in.
