My long time running shoe has been discontinued and i needed to start looking for another shoe. I went with the next shoe NB 2360v2 which i liked but felt small. I also tried the Asics Kayano 18 which felt good, i also run with Green Super Feet, i think the first time i got fitted they said i should wear this. I never had any feet or leg issues to speak of (IT Band once) So today i go to my local running store to see if they have any other options. I tell her what i am wearing, she puts me through the whole fit process and tells me i am running on the wrong shoe and the SuperFeet is a big waste of money for me. I am not an Over Pronator I am a Neutral, so i end up trying a few different shoes and end up with the Asics Nimbus 14, they felt good on my feet we'll see how they feel when i run.

So make sure you are running in the correct shoe...

Now i have a questions, i use a website and get this shoe for $120 and free shipping, or go back to the girl who spent 30mins with me and give her the sale, assuming they work on commission. She was great and helpful and i am big into customer service, or should i do the right thing by my wallet and save the money, what would you do?

  • I feel like, if you have a good local running store, it's a good idea to support them even if it means spending a little more. I'm very appreciative of my store for all the events they organize and the fact that they've helped me out a lot personally, so I would be happy to spend a few bucks more to get shoes through them.

That being said, they don't normally stock my size, and I get a 20% military discount if I order online, so there are certain shoes that I'll definitely buy online rather than through them.

I'd go back to the shop where you got service (at least for the 1st pair) , the suggested retail for the Nimbus 14 is $140 so even if they're charging full price (which would be a surprise) you've received more than $20 value in service. I'd also let them know that they have competition and I'd love to offer them my continuing support but that I too have to work hard for my money - don't be surprised if they discount them a bit.

Yeah, i'll do the right think for the local store... good idea about saying something to her maybe she'll give me a discount.

When I got fitted, I purchased my shoes from them. They did the work and took the time to help me out in figuring what was needed for my feet. They really were nice! After that, though, online. (it is a 2 hr drive to get to that store)

Yes, buy local, at least the first pair.

It's entirely possible that, as you have run more and your stride has become more efficient, that your gait has changed enough that you now need a different shoe.

If you get Asics, pull up the insole and see whether it has a two-piece last stitched in the middle of the arch. If so, be sure to replace the factory insoles with gel insoles, and properly lubricate/wear running socks. You don't want blisters in your arches!
