Yep. I’m watching Millionaire Matchmaker again. This time she featured a plus size millionairess who had a beautiful face, shapely body, but was very very shallow. Her sole reason for choosing a guy was his looks. I cringed when she chose the “hot guy” who back stage had already told the camera that he’d never dated someone of her stature before but since she’s a millionaire he’d find a way to deal with it.
He was a total jerk to her during the date: took her biking, which was a joke to him because he figured with her size that she didn’t like to be active, kept asking her to fund his businesses and buy him a ducati and maserati, and when she got to feeling a little frisky asked for a hand job but didn’t so much as hug her. She was all over him, feeling his arms, pecs etc but he did not reciprocate. He even told her (in stronger language) he was a jerk that just wanted to spend her money.
It was painful to watch, as she had no idea that he was not attracted to her in the least. What was the worst for me was when she said they had a really good time. THAT was her definition of a really good time?
I didn’t like how Patti screamed at her for being so shallow that she passed up a nice man who was genuinely attracted to her (physically a “5” which is what Patti thought this girl should go for) and even more foolish to think a hot guy(9s and 10s) would want someone of her size (ouch!! really??). One thing Patti said that I *did* like is that until this girl stopped being so shallow she was never going to experience true love. She was going to keep buying affection from men who weren’t interested in her, only using her.
Anyone ever see this episode? What do you think about these attitudes?

I saw that episode.
That dumb broad got what she deserved, she was a complete idiot and an airhead. I thought Patti was right.
Honestly, I didn't think that girl was attractive at all, either her body or her personality.
But it wouldn't be good television if people weren't idiots 80% of the time, right?0 -
I saw that, it was total train-wreck TV. Which is also why I watched when there was a reunion show with the two of them. From what they said it sounds like they had a long relationship of using one another... him for her $ and her for some sex from him.0
-
One of my big concerns with the whole thing was that I can look at it *now* and see that the guy is not into her. And his attitude comes shinging through.
But 10 years ago, when/if a guy were to do me like that I wouldn't realize what was going on. How many of us allow ourselves to be used/abuse through our own shallowness or our own inability to honor ourselves.0 -
10 years ago I would've let a guy do that to me not because of shallowness, but because I didn't have adequate confidence in myself nor had I learned that happiness comes from yourself, not because you have a man (that clearly is not treating you with respect, love, etc.) in your life.
Hopefully Ms. Multi-Millions will learn her own lessons...if not...it would be hard for me to sympathize. She might be shallow but surely she can't be that stupid?0 -
I didn't have adequate confidence in myself
I actually think this is one of her biggest problems. Low confidence, as evidenced by the ton of makeup she wore and how much she trank to unwind at events.
And then she became a millionaire and tried using her money to buy the love and affection she didn't feel ilke she was worthy of. If she could see that she, like the rest of us, is a person who deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, perhpas she could begin to love herself for who she is.
This will lead to letting go of the shallowness and accepting *real* love.0 -
I remember that episode and she deserves what ever she gets. She is dellusional. If she is basing her romance ONLY on looks she will be continually dissapointed. THat is not to say she can't be with someone she is attracted to physically but she has to smarten up and see beyond the outside...because these jerks she's going for are going to bankrupt financially and emotionally.0

But why is it "ok" in TV-land for the guys to be shallow and go for looks (and for Patti to berate any of the women who want to meet her millionaires but are over a size 8 as fat and unacceptable) but here is this woman in almost the same boat. But because she's a woman she can't do the same thing the guys do (attract based on money).
Sigh. I guess it's just more evidence of the differnece between men and women.
I've often joked if I don't *have* a man by time I retire I'll just *buy* one... lol... apparently, if you're not hot enough to get one on your own you can't even do that!!!0 -
Millionaire Matchmaker is a contrived reality. Sure, everything has gets said happens, but sometimes in the editing process, context is altered which changes meaning. Additionally, producers are looking to type cast. As a producer, you are looking to pre select people who will be compelling enough to drive ratings.
Patti is also a bit sensationalistic on camera and I'm sure the editing process enhances this.
I will admit that I did not see this episode.
From some simple Googling, I found a quick clip of the woman. She can't compete for very good looking men at her current weight, so Patti has some basis in reality for saying what she did. Many men often care more about a woman's looks than her money. Recall the hypothetical discussion last week about a typical Hooters waitress being more desirable to the majority of men than the typical Harvard MBA working at McKinsey.0 -
How can such an idiot make so much money... And here is me who thought the world was a meritocracy!
I kid, I kid... Even idiots have the right to live in adundance (although...).
Anyway, with money you can buy looks, so surely it wouldn't be that difficult for her to be on par physically with someone like the "hot gold digging guy".
Apart from that, whatever floats her boats (and I think she knows the guy tries to manipulate her, she's just enjoying his looks for a little while).0 -
I think I saw that episode.. wasn't she obsessed with pink and talked about having a pink house with Hello Kitty **** or something?
Yeah she was an airhead.0 -

Hey, I'm obsessed with pink and want to live in a pink house with Hello Kitty ****! haha
Anywho, back on subject. I google imaged this lady and IMO she is not cute to me. It is ridiculous to want to date men who are in shape, when you are not. You attract who you are. Either she is highly dellusional about how she looks or she doesn't care. And I know I'm generalizing here, but in my experience, I find a lot of the really shallow women who drool over men and will only date hot guys are often the ugliest themselves. Same goes for men. Nothing irks me quite like a fat guy saying, "No fatties! I could never date a woman who was fat." Ummmm...0 -
I am glad I don`t watch "reality" shows. :laugh:0

I didn't see that episode, but I'm going to presume that she was this way because of her age and lacked maturity. Maybe she will wise up in time.0 -

That statement bothers me in general, but I honestly find it amusing when it's a fat guy saying it. Another case of a fat guy thinking he's Brad Pitt's cousin.
Something about the word Fatties, ugh.... Some guy on OKC had that as his opening line to his profile the other day. It took everything I had to not make some smart remark to him since OKC put him as a match in my "Quiver" Whatever....
Now I want to go look up this episode, and I don't watch TV!!0 -
Judging by the description of the guy:
Money can't buy you love, but it should be able to buy you someone who can pretend better than that! Note to self: When I become fabulously wealthy, don't count on television producers to find me a proper gigolo.0 -

I do watch a little TV and everything is DVR'd because of my work schedule. Reading this thread got me interested in seeing what this show is. I found the official website and it has tons of clips but no actual full episodes. I'll have to keep scouring. I did see pictures of this gal, Robin right? I agree with the make-up thing. Too much make-up is a major turn off for me. I find a girl's natural beauty with blemishes and imperfections more attractive.0 -

Ha ha ha! I'm just having my first cup of coffee, but that picture kind of snapped me awake!0

The son got the better deal in the pic.
@Mellie-you are up kind of early for a Saturday. Guess you were not out at the clubs until closing time.0 -
LOL! I'm not exactly the clubbing sort and I can't seem to sleep in on weekends anymore. I seem to just wake up around 7 AM.
I'm not sure how you can say the son got the better deal. He might have worked a life time to get a hot chick for a few years. The daughter might put up with an old man for a few years for a lifetime of wealth from his inheritance.0 -

This is probably the ONLY time I'll ever agree 100% with this chick!
OP: Shapely!??!?!? Only if we are going to call round a shape. I'm not trying to be cruel but I'm calling it like I see it. I'm not the smallest girl in the world but I can't co-sign on that!0 -
Being a reality TV junkie, I've seen that episode a handful of times. Yes, most people's comments on here were pretty accurate and whatnot. However, the bottom line is that she wanted to be with him and he wanted to be with her. Doesn't matter what the circumstances were, they wanted to spend time with each other. I see nothing wrong with that.0

I find that interesting considering how often on MFP we tell ugly, sloppy people that they are hot and sexy. I guess since this is someone on TV so everyone feels it's ok to dog her out.
In my eye, she was large, yes, but she was well put together. She had a defined bust and hips. Her clothes and accessories accentuated a feminine appearance, were tailored to her shape, colors were good for her pallor, and she did not have sloppy rolls hanging out everywhere like your "average" plus size person.
The only thing I thought was ugly about her was her horrible, garish makeup. She had a pretty smile, but all that rouge distracts the eye from fully appreciating it.
I am shapely, just larger. So to me, plus size does not automatically discount being shapely.. You guys might think I'm smaller because I turn to the side in most of my picturesbut I'm still wearing Lane Bryant pants.

Not to side track this but I must interject here...
There is absolutely nothing wrong in any way with Janies size or shape no matter what she suggests.:smokin:

To be as fair and rational as possible, there's really not enough information to say anything about that older guy and pretty young woman in the pic. So I was wrong about that. Unless one knows all the specifics, you can't tell. :laugh:0 -

I appreciate that Carl ;-) but as far as I'm concerned, if I'm still wearing clothes from the big-mama stores, and if I finish races and can't fit in any of the women's marathon finisher gear (even the XL) then I am still too large. In shape, yes. Got a great shape, yes. But still too large.
When we went snowboarding spring break I was literally in tears because store after store none of the womens' shirts fit. The baggy mens shirts fit, but even the XLs in women's did not fit. My son wanted me to keep trying stuff on, saying "in the next store mommy, we'll find something that fits you." And I couldn't take it. We'd already been shopping for over an hour. I walked away from him b/c I didn't want him to see me cry. How can I have all these running medals; how can I max or always score 96-97/100 for YEARS on my fitness test; how can I tear up the mountain for 8 hours on a snowboard and STILL can't fit in the women's clothes. I'm TIRED of wearing men's shirts, but that's all that seems to fit these linebacker shoulders!!
Thank God they now make juniors plus size, or I'd NEVER find shirts that fit!!
ok. rant is over. I promise.0 -

I can understand where JanieJack is coming from. As a larger guy it can get fusterating at times finding nice clothes that fit well and don't even get me started on shoes  . Yes there are "Lane Bryant" stores a.k.a Big & Tall for guys, but it doesn't mean the selection is always great. It's kinda funny, in the past when I was bigger, I never really cared about clothes or fashion in general. As long as whatever I was wearing covered my huge stomach, I was ok with it. Now that I am smaller, I am noticing that my choices are growing and I am able to wear nicer looking things that I wasn't able to wear in the past. Yet still there are times I'll see a great looking shirt or pair of jeans I like but I can't wear because even at my goal weight, I'll be too tall, legs too big, etc etc. for it to look right on me.
However I agree with Carl01 too. He's had the pleasure to see and meet you in person so if he says there's nothing wrong, I agree with him.0 -

unattractive stick figures in mind.
If tomorrow a size 8 is declared a 6 have you changed?
No,so accept that you are a feminine and nicely proportioned lady.0 -
Not sure what's wrong with the sports shops in America if you can't buy appropriate clothes in ANY size. Do they expect that the only people that partake in these activities are a size 0?
I think you look great from your pictures Janie :flowerforyou:0 -

OhMyGoodness this is soooo true! On guy I was really liking one time wore size 18 neck and 36" sleeved shirts. He made good money, so I couldn't understand WHY he always wore these cheapie shirts with his suits. Jos. A Bank was having a killer shirt sale during his birthday so I went in and discovered that they - and most stores- have VERY little at that size. The saleslady who went through every shirt in the store with me finally told me that a guy that big is basically stuck with the big'n'tall stores which have crummy, cheap, selection.
They carry that size online, in limited quantities, but the store sales don't match the online sales so he got dinner for his birthday ;-)0
