Welcome to Bowl Away the Pounds!

I'm glad so many of you are interested in this group. I wasn't sure how many responses I would get, but it looks like we have a lot of bowlers out there!

I'm 53 years old and live in Chicago. My husband and I have three young adult children. My weight loss plan is going well except---I really hate to exercise!

I just started bowling a few months ago. I hadn't bowled in 20 years and was always TERRIBLE ( 40 or 50 per game). Then I attended a party at a bowling alley and for the first time ever broke 90.

Two days later, I went again and bowled 119. Then I bought my own shoes and bowled 130. The next time, my high game was 148. And right after that I hit 167 !!! All within 2 weeks!

I thought, this is GREAT. It's a lot more fun than the treadmill, and unlike regular bicycling, you can do it even in horrible weather.

Right now my average--with a house ball--is around 130-135. I have a list of all the local bowling alleys and their specials ( $1/game days, Bowl Your Head Off of unlimited games for $10, etc.). I go by myself, because I like to bowl game after game without waiting my turn and not getting the benefit of sustained exercise. I am considering joining a league, but before I commit to anything I want to improve my technique and keep my average consistent.

I think the key to sticking with an exercise program is to keep it enjoyable so it doesn't become a chore.

I will be asking advice from you experienced bowlers as I get closer to buying my own ball and as I try to improve my score.

Talk to you guys soon!
