Any new bike riders in York?

I'm in York, and have 75lbs to lose. I'm looking to try biking to and from work but it's been 10+ years since I road a bike for a protracted amount of time. Anyone around York who is also new to bike riding and has any advice for good roads/areas to practice or wants to meet up for a bike ride?
