Crystal_Pistol's I Can't Run that Far! Log

Okay, I'm in. Up for a challenge. My goal is to run a 5K at some point, which means I am looking at needing to be able to run 3 miles continuously. I am choosing to run because I *know* I can walk or "elliptical" 3 miles; I do it whenever I am planning to eat a psycho meal for calorie padding. Running? Ummmm, no.

Believe it or not, my roommate and I used to run 3 miles, 3 days a week together. That was 8 years ago and I was QUITE a bit lighter than I am now. In order to do this again, I have to get over the mental hurdles as much as the physical ones. The biggest issue for me, and perhaps why I DON'T TRY to run is the feeling of disgust that I get when I start. I am my own worst critic, and running is the activity where I'm most aware of what I've let my body become. I can feel every single jiggle, my knees ache from the extra weight, I feel like I'm carrying sandbags...

I can start doing some jog/walking, but I can't really get into a major routine until I get some new running shoes. This should happen next week. Ideally I can take this party outside, but it depends on what my furbaby's legs are looking like.

And with this, I've committed.

I'm so happy!!! I'm not a runner, so this is all new for me. I have some Danskin capris I got from Wal Mart that have a band to hold your tummy in place. They work really well! I'm so glad you joined!

AWESOME. I am totally proud of you! You got this! Getting proper shoes is a must, then from there the jog/walking sounds like a great plan. You can either try something like C25K if you do better with structure, or you can just do the "jog till you can't, walk till you're recovered" method if you don't like being told what to do ;) Usually when people start, they start out too fast, so my best advice is to run/jog SLOW, slower than you feel is even comfortable. You'll naturally get faster with time, you don't need to worry about that at all in the beginning. Building a bit of endurance is much more important than moving fast.

Glad you're on board!!!! WOOT WOOT!

P.S. I MAY start one here after vacation for the 5k. You need to poke me to do it..

Finally, my lazy *kitten* has an entry!

Did Couch to 5K, Week 1 with no problem. No PHYSICAL problem anyway. As always, my head was telling me to stop. I'm gonna have to conquer the mind. Here is my plan:

    C25K Week 1 on Dreadmill
    C25K Week 1 outdoors

I'm gonna do that throughout the whole series, with my "Wogs" occurring on S, T, and Th. If you don't see my *kitten* posting runs, CUSS AT ME!!

You can do this. I started with the c25k program and completed my first 5k. I ran the whole thing. If I can do it, anybody can.

    Couch to 5K, day 2:

Took the run outside today to include the dogs. OH MY GOD! Sooooo much more challenging. With the treadmill, I'm on a level surface at a set speed... not so much outdoors. I made it, but it was UGLY. I thing the indoor AND outdoor training is gonna be the way to succeed. FYI: I HATE running outdoors.
