Moutain/trail bike

Hello,
I have been thinking about getting a Trek 3500 but was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on it. I will mainly use it for crushed limestone and compact dirt trails. I am thinking this bike might be a bit overkill for that since I do not live in the mountains. I was suggested that the Verve or the DS series from Trek might be worth looking into as well.
Thanks for any help!

I think that's a great choice. Mountain bikes aren't just for mountains, they are for off road biking (ie dirt, gravel, etc.) as well. I recently got a Trek 820 and love it. It's great for off road and I also ride it on the pavement. It's excellent for excercise.

You could really do either that or one of the others. I have an 8.4 DS and ride it on and off road. But MTB's can be ridden pretty much anywhere. Trek is a great choice though! :)

Thanks! I eventually decided on a new 2012 Trek 3700 Disc. Already took it out on the I&M and it was awesome!

I just got a Trek 3900 Disc. It was used by Young Life for 22 days of high school kids riding, fixed and cleaned up, and sold for $360. I have only been out on it three times, but am enjoying it.
