Hi everyone I was hoping to find out how many people with RA have been told by there doctor what they will never work again. I have RA for about 4 years now and have been off work for 3 months now. I have been on medication for it all along just started Methotrexate two weeks ago. I still get pain in knees and hands every day.

:( Sorry to hear that. I haven't had to stop working so I can't imagine what that must feel like. (((hugs)))

I too was not told to stop working and I have severe RA, I also take methotrexate. Sometimes I wish I could just stay home and sleep because I have had a rough nite with my RA. Can I ask why your doctor feels you can not work? Did you have a very physical job? I recently went back to school for medical secretary and am currently working in a doctor's office so my job thankfully is not very physical.

I have had RA for over 10 years now.. Been on Methotrexate for about 9 of them.. I haven't stopped working at all.. I am a Manager of IT Support group... lots of typing and long hours. I have flareups and my kneees, ankles and hands will tighten and ache but not to the point of not being able to work. A friend of mine was significantly affected with RA though and he did have to stop working at one point.... but that was only for about 1 year.. hope you feel better soon
  • Thanks for all the replys

I was told 4 year ago I had RA. And for the most part only in my knees. Last year I was in a car accent and was off for a couple months. I went back to work (as a nurse) for about 7 months, my hands and knees were so bad I had to stop. And after almost droping a client I had to end it. I went to my RA doctor to see about what was going on he sent me for an MRI of my hands. He called me back to tell me how bad it is in my hands. He started me on a new meducation Methotrexate. I have been on it for 3 weeks now. With no improvemet. When I ask him about when would I be ok to go back to work he said never. Not to the job I was doing unless I could sit and not use my hands to much.:noway:

The methotrexate is supposed to start working after about 6 to 8 weeks from what I have heard and read.

But if your hands are that bad, I would listen to your Dr.

I just started the methotrexate. But I have also been taking Plaquenil as well, and my hands and knees are what hurt still. Not always but somewhere throughout my day they start hurting. My hands more than anything.

    Wishing you the best.
