I'm all about humor, even in a debate. We all need to break up the serious debating from time to time with a laugh. And I am the last person in the world that would be offended by any type of humor.

I won't lie though, I haven't been posting or even looking here much anymore due to lack of debating and too much bull****. I mean, the reason I joined this group in the first place was to have a place to be passionate about my opinions. Now there is very little conversation, lots of old debaters gone and lots of bullsh!ts. Ok, if you wanna break up serious post with some humor, go for it. But when I can't make a point in a thread at all, because of just plain childish posts AND personal attacks, it gets old.

Just being honest, I'm enjoying this group less. I'll also admit that most of that is because of one or two people who just completely try to 'talk over you' with 'humor' when you have something to say. .. :ohwell:

I just ran across this. For me, it explains why some internet joking falls flat.

'The failure mode of clever is “*kitten*.”'

This is exactly how I feel.

If you don't have a sense of humor about yourself, you're missing out on life.
You know I have a sense of humor about myself. I guess in a debate group, though, I'd hoped we could have debates without the crap that usually goes on in the main forums.
I also think people on here (MFP generally) fail to grasp the concept that sarcasm and humor can be made to make a very valid point about the ridiculousness of an argument.
I'm all about sarcasm and humor, but sometimes in a debate it's a weak tactic. It's usually used when the other person doesn't really have anything of value to add to their position in response to the last point made. In a debate, sarcasm and humor can be great, if it's not making your opponent the brunt of the joke.
